To be honest, you will be best going into your local VW dealer's parts department and explain what you are trying top do and ask them to check up on what the limitations are on using these parts with the differing suffixes. Once you have told them which engine type you have and that it is for 9N3, they should be able to order you the correct one. For the petrol engines, I can't remember seeing any strange shapes in the insulation that would stop it fitting one and not the other. Check up while you are ordering how many clips you need - unless the insulation comes with a set fitted.

Now I have 6R.I have installed the mat bought from breakers with sound proofing material underneath coopern.
slight redcution in noise.Thats it.
