Still considering replacing air con pump but laid under front of car and videoed pump and just under it with my son move the steering back and forth, mainly forcing maximums lick ach way and this what I can hear

https://youtu.be/JALDF8ayUYg

Interestingly enough the noise is so much quieter when the air con is activated

Presume it's now the pump and something inside it lose or badly worn

Thanks for all response on this so far, much appreciated

Andrew

I was wondering if a non air con drivebelt could be fitted so that I could cut out the air con to prove the issue?
I have a feeling that you would need to replace a few parts as well as the belt, if you were wanting to run without the compressor being driven.

I've done it on previous cars, and all I have needed is a shorter belt. On older cars, aircon was an option, so you get a belt off a non aircon model. Most newer cars have aircon as standard, so it could be tricky sourcing a shorter belt

I think that Polo 9N> only ever came to UK with AC, so I'd think that what I have written represents the situation better, your VW dealer could source a belt for a non UK spec'd car, but then as I said there will be the issue of routing it to miss out the AC comprssor and still contact all the required users.

Older cars with or without AC compressor is a lot simpler as the front end drive design has been thought out to keep things simple for either situation.

Thanks Rum
Iā€™d be better off buying a secondhand pump and fitting it I think :)
Thanks again
