The downside to a black or white car - they look filthy almost immediately after washing. I will have that joy of weekly washes to come when my wife's white GTI+ turns up.

Shamefully I've never actually cleaned my 2006 Golf myself. Have always taken it to the cheap £5-10 places as the car is covered in little scratches and marks (was 9 years old when I bought it). Bought it to commute back and forth to Uni so keeping it clean was never a priority, except the inside.

Will need to look into what sort of products to buy ready for the GTI+. Will definitely be doing that myself!

I liked my previous Seat Leon a lot. Long story short needed a car asap, local Seat dealer had the (none more) black Leon available, good, fortunate choice. Apart from trying to keep it clean, current car is reflex silver. When the time came to change, the new current model Leon was literally £100 cheaper than a Mk7 Golf over 4 yrs PCP (no, I couldn't believe it either), otherwise it would have been a much more dificult choice, so this is where I am now. Now the Golf's main rival could be argued to be the new Polo....

I was just about to post that in my world Silver is the ideal colour when it comes to needing to keep it looking okay!

My wife has had 3 silver cars, first one was a very slightly used ex Channel Island rental car and only colour/one left, next was a 2002 9N Polo silver was picked as a default colour on a factory order as VW's colour selection at that point in time for Polo SE was shocking/limited - and now she has a Reflex Silver 2015 Polo, this time I thought Silk Blue was the closest to what I would buy but she just did not like that, so again the default was silver due to VW's limited colour range - SEAT are a lot braver, okay different typical/target customer profile, but VW could try harder with respect to body colour availability.

I once almost bought a Futura Yellow Passat B5 - the equivalent pearl orange colour also caught my eye, but I was not brave enough and so went for Silver!

Edit:- I've sorted this posting by adding "customer" in so that it makes a bit of sense!

Yes SEAT do some great colours, their Desire Red pearl is amazing and would be what I would get if I got another one, I think Skoda are offering it now (under another name) in the new Scala.

Oh god, car cleaning/detailing is a pandora's box.
Before you know it you'll be arguing about colour specific waxes, area specific sealants, clay bars or clay cloths, grit guards or no grit guards......
Don't say I didn't warn you. :D

Black I agree looks dirty very quickly
White I find the opposite though, I think it can 'look' clean for a long time.
We both had white cars at one point (BMW320ED and a Hyundai IX35) and they were a treat to keep clean.
The beauty of white is that you can polish/wax it pretty lazily and it still looks great.
You don't get the visible hazing that can make a badly polished black car look crap.
De-tarring was obviously more important on white than black though, but that's easy with the right products.

I’ve owned many black and a couple of white cars in my time.

Black is a labour of love and takes lots of effort to keep it looking good, and only really looks clean just after it’s been washed. It does look good just after washing though, but all it needs is a layer of dust and and a light rain shower and you’re back to a dirty looking car again. Also, a good, ‘safe’ washing technique is important to minimise the risk of inflicting swirls, as these will be highly visible in sunlight. Unless you like swirled paintwork, avoid the many £5 hand wash set-ups and never let the VW dealer carry out their complimentary service wash when your car goes back to the dealer for servicing, warranty or repair work.

White is much more forgiving than black, and much easier to look after. I also found that white stays looking clean for a long time after washing. I could also wash my white cars in sunlight - I couldn’t do that with the black ones as they dried up covered in water spots before I had a chance to dry them off.

My next car is very probably going to be white.

I fully agree, having had cars of pretty much all colours over the years, I have found black is the worst to look after, silver or very light met blue the easiest to keep looking clean, white to get dirty when it's wet\muddy but easy to get looking good again with little effort.

You're welcome :-) Personally I like the spray on and wash off type for ease of use, Hydrofoam is a good one amongst others, grab yourself a little hand sprayer from Wilko or similar and a small measuring jug, a little goes a long way! If you use Instagram follow him too, he tests everything he sells before he will sell it :-)

Have no doubts!!! My GTi+ is the best car I've yet owned. No it's not perfect, what car is? But it makes all the right compromises...I think you guys waiting will be very pleased.

Was driving along yesterday thinking how I don't recall ever seeing a new shape Polo on the road, everytime I look at one it is the previous model, so of course I then saw an orange SE (I think, had small silver coloured alloys?) and then a black Beats, both within 5 mins of each other.

Smart looking cars, esp the Beats. :D

Hi all, I'm also new here , been toying with ordering a gti plus for a while and ordered it yesterday! I'm in no rush , just as well after reading these threads  . The dealer did say 16 weeks but I won't hold my breath! I've ordered a red one with black roof and Brechia s. I was offered a white one with black pack which is available in 5 weeks if anyone's interested? Also with Brechias .
