I have keyless entry on my car without the nice keys :/ I did the upgrade to the mrs. 2018 polo key with a little filing needed.

The engine cover probably is the current ‘proper one’. Chances are, the latest / current version is cheaper to produce than the earlier version, and for car manufacturers, it’s all about keeping costs down and maximising profit margins.

It wouldn’t bother me if the engine cover was a plain one. I only see it when I dry around the edge of the bonnet after washing my car, and checking under bonnet fluid levels.

At least the engine in the GTI / GTI+ has an engine cover; not all VW engine variants do.

I don’t think the Polo GTI+ comes with chrome key caps, but they’re readily available on well known online auction sites for a few pounds. Bought some for my previous generation Polo GTI but took them off as my key fob covers couldn’t fit over the key fobs with the chrome cap fitted.

Chrome key loops with all UK GTIs - the loop is plain though. You have to buy Golf GTI loops and modify the locking rails with a Dremel tool or similar to get them to fit the Polo keys.

The chrome loops are all dealership fit (tiny hex screw inside the battery compartment to secure it). Ifyouhave a UK GTI on plastic loops, your dealership simply hasn't fitted the chrome ones at PDI.

Ah, it was the GTI version I bought for my car. They fitted perfectly though on the previous generation car’s key fob without needing any modification, so the key fob design must’ve changed.

Seem to remember that the chrome GTI key fob caps weren’t always fitted on the mk7 Golf GTI key fobs. From recollection, owners sometimes found them in a packet in the glovebox, so it might be worth @cdsound checking to see if they’re there.

Early days of the MK7, the dealers weren't passing on or fitting the loops seemingly pocketing them for their own cars! My Dad's MK7 GTD was the first in the UK on the Golf GTI forum and my dad only got one loop. The other was on the sales man's own keys! He got his second loop after enquiries because GTI owners at other dealerships were getting both loops (in some cases). When my GTD arrived at the same dealership 2 months later, it had both loops.

The Polo's key body doesn't accommodate one of the locking splines on the Golf's loop, so you have to Dremel it off to fit.

I showed the differences on a thread here ages ago.

I received my car with the engine cover without any badge. I bought a used one engine cover with the VW and TSI badge in eBay Germany and I took it to an hydroprinting center. It looks so poor all in black plastic. I thinks that it looks great now

I think VWAG are just cheaping out on making Individual parts and just making one fits all, so you might see blank engine covers on seats Skodas Audi etc.. my friend had a 1.6tdi seat and the engine cover had a vw badge under the seat badge (was stuck on with 3m double sided pad/tape)

Engine covers, along with other common parts have been shared across VAG brands for some time, so the ‘one fits all’ approach isn’t new, and it’s a way to control costs . Yes, I’ve read over on seatcupra.net of a few forum members who’ve removed the Seat badge from their engine cover and found a VW one underneath.

The carbon fibre engine cover does look good. Would I buy one? Probably not; a plain unbranded one would do for me just fine. Anyone who wants one though, I’m sure they’ll be happy with it and won’t regret their purchase.
