Tough to say what this is.

Some pads have a groove in the middle that I've seen stuff get jammed into, but that often then causes visible grooves in the discs - which is why I asked.
Could be the caliper has seized and the pad on the back of the caliper (that you can't see) is down to metal, but it seems to low mileage to be that.

My brakes have become noisy since the winter.
Not a scraping, but a loud 'humming/rumbling' when braking from high speed.

Turning wheel on full lock and jacking it up did not reveal anything to us so it is a mystery and in normal driving it is fine only when coming to a stop.
No doubt technician will find cause on Monday but as you said a caliper did come into my head as well as a wheel bearing so we will see!!

Hi Noonoo632
Just wondered if you found out the cause of the scraping noise?

Hi johnparker
So after my son jacked up the car and tried to get wheel off it seems to have dislodged whatever was causing the problem as it has been silent ever since. I have taken it for a 30 mile and 60 mile run this week and noise has not returned so can only assume it was something caught in the brake/disc parts. There is no visible sign of scoring on either the back or front of disc so it is a mystery!!
Cancelled booking at dealership as did not seem any point

Stone in the bloody tin guards behind the discs then.
What a pain those things are, on any car.
