The relay is only powered by the pin 6 of the ignition lock.

In order to remove the lower trim cover, you also need to remove the steering wheel. Otherwise you'll break stuff.

To check the ignition lock swtich I will have to remove the cover? Maybe it will be possible to do this stuff on Saturday. How many newton meter I need to remount the steering wheel?

Yes, remove the cover. I don't know the specific torque.

According to Elsawin:

Steering wheel to steering column
Always renew bolt
Specified torque:30 Nm + 90° further

If you really want to do it according to the book, you need to also replace the nut holding the steering wheel to the steering column.

Nut: Bolt - I think it's what Elsawin means by always renew the bolt

thanks for all the information provided. I still did not continue with this problem, because I had to order the M12 XZN to release the screw.

Will replay again after checking the Voltage on PIN 6.

I want give a short replay to this problem...
I received the screw driver needed for the steering wheel. And on Friday the issues disappeared. I start the engine an the cooling fan is running. So for the moment I do not want to spend a lot of time. But if the problem returns I will check the key lock switch.

And write a new comment to this topic.

This issue could be a symptom of a low battery ... and after taking a few trips with the car the battery recovered slightly.

6R. Various high drain devices can be connected to Terminal 75x (depending on original factory equipment).

- Manual air conditioning unit (Basic A/C, CLIMATIC - not digital Climatronic -)
- Front fog lights.
- Rear windscreen wiper motor.
- Heated seats.
- 12v Sockets (lighter).


1. Try not to activate all of these devices at the same time, especially when starting the engine.
Avoid having the ignition key in the 75x position (ACC = accessories) with the engine OFF for long periods of time, e.g to do tests or checks.
2. Check the battery status.
3. If any of the devices listed above were retrofitted, check the electrical connections.

Yes I thought at the begining of the problem, but the wiring diargam shows direct connection to th relay.

Yes, a direct connection +30 from the battery for the supply power that will be provided by the J59 relay, not for the activation signal of the relay, which is initially under your control through the ignition switch.
As you have already mentioned above, the 75x goes OFF during the engine start and returns to ON once the engine is running.

The activation signal from the ignition switch to the J59 relay can be diagnosed since this same activation signal reaches the BCM (T73b/51).
The battery icon on the instrument cluster dials is the battery diagnosis, it should turn off once the engine is ON.

Just to comment on an example, one of the symptoms of a battery in very bad condition is an erratic operation of the central locking system.
