, thanks for correcting me, must have just been an 8 valve version then ? was it the same engine just without the gti suspension etc ?
iirc, its the golf driver. basically a gti spec car apart from the engine. gti's were fuel injected whereas the driver got a carb.

Actually his is a 1.8 GL.. spec's alright, but not like the GTi. As well as the GL and the Driver there was the Tour and a 4wd 1.8, all of which had carbs rather than fuel injection like the GTi. Still, it's a lovely powerful engine, puts the 1043 polo to shame

Well Im happy enough with my car atm although I do want more power(chip soon).
Had a race with a 106 Gti(on a private race track ofcoarse) with a full s/s decat system and filter on friday and was dead equal to it.
I reackon it hits 60 easily under 8 seconds now and I really cant imagine owning something quicker cos mine seems bloody quick enough.
Im getting it RR tomorrow so will see how much bhp Im pushing out to make it so fast. Will take some vids on the way down and while its on the rollers too.

Well, I've just been taking a quick look into insurance costs.. it's all gone down quite nicely over the last year, especially if I stay under my dad's policy and use the 1 year's NCB I (hopefully..) will have earnt by the time I have to renew my insurance... perhaps a golf of some description is on the cards now. I'll look into it when it comes closer to insurance / MoT time at the end of january.
Anyone know what the power:weight ratio on a 1.3 mk2 golf is like compared to the power:weight of a 1.0 mk2 polo? I should imagine it'll be slightly better at least, if not enormously.. and that way at least I'd have a bit more space and it'd be a bit more bearable being the taxi service for all my friends who are too lazy to learn to drive

You dont build up ncb if you are under someone elses policy...

Nope, but the someone else whose policy I'm under does, and if I'm still under their policy, it makes it cheaper for me

I know if I take out my own insurance policy I start from scratch, that's why I don't intend to yet..

I dont know about 1.3 carrot but looking through an volkswagon audi driver magazine from 1992 the polo gt is faster on paper than a 1.8 golf
golf top speed is slightly higher but we're only talking about 5mph. must be the weight of the thing

I'm not all that suprised to be honest.. polo is very and built incredibly light, whereas the golf was a fair bit bigger, chunkier and more heavily built. Still, I'd rather have the extra space and build quality of the golf, much as I may love the old polos..
