Is the 10th December a confirmed build date or was that the dealer’s ’best guess’ of the build date at the time you ordered your car? If it’s the latter, then the build date could change. You can ask you dealer for your car’s build status code; status 10 = build week scheduled but not confirmed, status 20 = Factory production week confirmed. If your car’s build is status 20, then production should definitely start on 10th December and that date shouldn’t change.

When I bought my last Polo back in 2020, typically it took around 6 weeks for cars to reach the UK from the factory in South Africa. I wouldn’t expect it to be much different now. Once in the UK, cars can be waiting a couple of weeks or so at port side in a storage compound before they’re transported to the dealership, so you might be looking at mid February delivery - that’s assuming your car’s build does start on 10th December.

Just got an update from my dealership, they stated january is expected delivery date but did not specify when. I reckon it will most likely be end of Jan dont see it coming at the start especially if build date is going to be around 10 december

Once a car’s built, there’s then an approximately six week journey from VW’s Kariega factory in South Africa via Emden in Germany before a car reaches the UK. IMHO key factors affecting timescales (and these factors are outside VW’s control) might be;
  • the length of time a car sits waiting at the Kariega factory or port side in South Africa before being loaded onto the ocean-going transporter vessel.
  • availability of ocean going car transporter vessels.
  • once a car’s in the UK - availability of car transporter HGV’s to transport the cars to dealerships.
At certain times of year, depending on location of the dealer the weather (e.g. flooding or heavy snow that prevents car transporter HGV’s collecting and delivering vehicles) might also be a factor that impacts timescales.

Once a car has been delivered to the dealership, it should be possible for them to PDI it and prepare it for customer collection fairly quickly, although bear in mind that with the March registration plate change, they may have more new cars to PDI and prepare in February that at ‘quieter’ times of the year.

I think that given the choice of a February or March delivery, I’d go for March as you’ll get the new ‘25’ plate registration number.
