sweet, thanks
always thought that proggy was deceptively small... probably just a BASIC script comparing the last two (or 2nd & 3rd) letters of user input against such a list and a bit of simple GUI code
soooo NH = northants, and about 50% of anything with an O in the middle is indeed birmingham. seems a bit of a loose area definition though - how far does "birmingham" (or indeed northampton) officially extend?

Don't think i've ever seen a brum city line...
ooo interesting stuff there btw --- what do you think the registrations where the middle letter is X or Z are reserved for? (Q is fairly obvious - "cherished" regs and kit cars... or not?? its surely not for reasons of clarity, when I/J and U/V are still included)
and the SV / SY "NON SUFFIX MARK" entries?!
oooh, spooooooky

Q isn't used anywhere on number plates except as a prefix for kit cars, rebuilt writeoffs, seriously modified cars, ex-MoD vehicles etc. Cars that need to be reregistered with no implication of a date of registration, anyway. It's not used anywhere else for the same reason as 0 is never used, only O - they're all too easy to confuse for the same letter, especially to the electrotrickery in speed cameras etc.
I don't know about X, but again, Z is never used except on Irish cars, as it's too easily confusable for a 2. Apparently the Irish are just better at telling their letters and numbers apart than we are

Strange that I is used in the end of number plates, seeing as I reg was skipped due to clarity issues with 1 and J..
Anyway, it appears that my car is from Brum.. which is odd, because it's second owners were in Romford and I'm it's third - seems an awful long way to go for a Polo

I've just realised why a lot of cars around here are rather amusingly called 'POO' - OO is chelmsford, only about 40 minutes away

Something new every day..

I discovered with L-reg CL Coupes that my car was part of a 'group registering'. Basically from L723 ONV to L989 ONV. Every one of them is a White CL Coupe. Would be even more freaky if they were all 1.3s too.

what does that mean?
two of my cars there, one utilising a zero and the other utilising the letter "O" Unless you meant something else...?

Oh, ok, my mistake then

It's never used as a prefix or suffix certainly, but yeah, now I think about it it is used elsewhere..

I've become quite a sad bastard as far as this goes, I've started collecting pics of Polos with similar plates.
I have pics of the following:
J668GNH
J671GNH
J696GNH
J731GNH
J752GNH
J755GNH
J759GNH
J799GNH
J830GNH
J916GNH
J927GNH
J934GNH
All Polo GTs, not all owned by people on the forums either.
I don't reckon all of those are press cars... seems like quite a long list.
Should also be noted that H*** ERP plate GTs and K***AHP plate G40s are quite common.
