I tried it without trimming it and found i couldn't release the handbrake all the way,it tended to sit about a quarter of the way on.I layed the old one on top of the 9N3 one and drew a line along the bottom of the new one as to where it came up to on the 9N3 cover.Marked it with a pencil and cut it with a staney knife only took 5 minutes or so nothing major.Still it may be on yours,i had trouble with it fouling the car.
Thats cool man,im going to litter yours hahaha.Im kidding man no worries.

The car is back

running absolutely sweet... No noises, no jumping. All good.
Really do take the power for granted, I forgot how much quicker it was than the dizzler.
9n3 handbrake cover fitted and hopefully I'll get it all washed this weekend.

Glad to hear it dude, my handbrake cover has just come. Haven't looked at fitting it yet. Is it hard?

WOW.
Awesome thread nigel, I didn't know that was you until you passed me the other friday, you'll be glad to get the car back.
I wasn't aware of how mint the wee motor was until I seen this thread, great job, you really know how to keep a car.

@Endi The tab underneath the handbrake, you need a SMALL flathead (as I found out, not large one) and you have to bend the tab outwards... Not mash the screwdriver in to it like I thought. I made a bit of a mess of the plastic underneath until I figured you pull it out, not push in.
To swap the buttons over, twist and pull very gently. Start with gentle pressure and increase it until you feel them releasing but don't force it because they are fairly brittle little clips holding the button on.
I didn't trim mine, I trial fitted it expecting it to need trimming but mine fits just fine.
Also it might help to remove the trim beneath the handbrake just so access is a little easier.
@Ben it took a good 6 weeks between the time it broke and when it was back on the road. Really missed it.
Future plans, upgrade the brakes, new front tyres and suspension. Then I want to get the bodywork sorted - all the wee car park dents and the tiny spot of surface rust.
@Graeme cheers mate

saw you about the town the other night (just after I got the car back) but only from a distance. Your motor is looking sweet, I'll be sure to keep an eye on your thread for future updates

Redone the red piping around the grille last week. Cheers to cornishdrummer for that
Also got my 9n3 handbrake cover fitted but no pics as of yet.

Waaaay more OEM.

Picture quality is poor but also fitted a new GTI badge I've had for a month or two now.

Re: Nigel's GTI - Boot light has stopped working :(

My LED bootlight stopped working tonight. I noticed it flickering a couple of days ago but when I opened the boot this evening it wasn't on at all. I tried swapping the bulb around to see if that helped any but to no avail. I'll need to get a look at it in daylight to see if I can see anything glaringly obvious.
Any ideas? It was a fairly expensive LED I put in there too from Ultra-LED's so I'd be kinda disappointed if it was the bulb. Definitely cost me more than a tenner too
EDIT Just tried the old bulb in the holder to no avail, must be a fuse or a wiring issue.

It's the pinstripe tape you get from halfords that hangs on the wee stands they have sitting about. Went for the 12mm tape.
