Its alot more than just a switch lol

Behind the dash is a magic box which connects to the switch and the wiring loom and adds the light sensor so it can work

You can get them on ebay - they are designed for a mk4 golf, but work perfect on the polo

It also gives you coming home and leaving home lights

Functionality wise, its as good as what comes on the newer VWs with auto lights!!

Heres the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUTO-HEADL ... 3380ec5889

The kit will work on most VWs with the same style headlight switch connector.

The switch is from a Mk5 Golf - comes with the kit.

Nice.

There's a Briskoda member which makes similar kits (using the same switch though) for Fabia users.

Question regarding that kit..

If you've pulled up at home, and it's dark (therefore your lights remain on as per the coming home function) does the alert buzzer go off when you get out of the car (letting you know that lights are still on)? Or does this kit bypass the buzzer somehow?

The switch requires alot more wiring behind the dash - youll find that wiring doesnt exist as it was never an option on the 9N3

Same as my kit then.
I can't remember how loud the 6N2 buzzer is, but on the fabia it started to do my head in.
So I removed the instrument cluster and put some sound proofing over the buzzer speaker, now it's much much quieter! Maybe worth the same treatment?

Interesting idea. I might be tempted by doing that to mine

Auto lights is so much better though!

It's probably a similar kit...got a link?

Is that it, I was expecting oil slick/machine guns or something. Don't see the point in auto lights, turning the switch isn't exactly hard lol....

Nifty though.

Nice touch Alex. It sounds like they work much like my Mk5 golf except my buzzer doesn't sound in auto. Another thing my lights do is come on regardless if you hit about 145 (km/h lol). It's some sort of autobahn setting IIRC. If the auto wipers are on continuously the lights come on then too.

Yeah it's the same in my Mk5 Golf GTI - continued driving above 90 mph for a period, when its raining and the wipers are on full auto at full speed.

The reason for no buzzer is the golf controls it all through the central electrics module which handles pretty much all lighting and other equipment in the car. It's one of those irritating things but ill get used to it lol.
