thanks loads mate :) it looks really better now that it is lowered, though it would have needed some more on the front :roll: ... hope it doesn't give the impression of a reversed rake set up

btw I really need help on this one!! I forget to put on the washer seen in the picture. It is the lowest piece that goes onto the rear shock absorber!! just underneath the large metal plate sort of thing. Can I do without it or do I have to remove the suspension again and put it back in!!??

It needs to go in. It stops the shock pushing through the bush!

Take it out and refit it as soon as you can.

done already this morning, I really do not want any more damage to happen. How I hate doing the same job twice for a stupid mistake! :x

btw talking about damage, my steering seems to rattle with every bump I go over, do you think its a worn tie rod problem or something in the steering shaft or rake??

Whats the best make to buy ?

And also do you have any pics of your lights on after you tinted them ?
found the can of the tint spray I used...it's a Motip brand(tuning line) was the cheapest I found and did an awesome job. and it almost stops no light at all.

The steering rattle could be a few things. It could be a tie rod, but id get your steering rack checked to make sure its mounted securely in the engine bay and under the dash.

as for the rack I checked for myself and it should be mounted correctly. Went to the local garage to ask him and he said that it's most probably the tie rods. I am taking it next week for a timing belt change and he'll check it once there.

I am planning on prying open the headlamps and side lamps so that I can spray some of the chrome and give them a darker look(also on one of the side lamps the chrome is flaking). does anyone know how to open them?? I am assuming that I have to do it the oven way as they do on the other cars no? heat it up so to melt the glue that holds the clear cover from the rest?

pictures after lowering. the back looks neater but the front still seems high and I have the impression that it's in reverse rake which it terribly BAD!!!

so is there some freken way I will be able to slightly lower the front end a tad more so at least I get the front level with the rear end? maybe modify something from the top mounts or remove something that seems to be useless?

Not for that much drop. Either chop the spring or take the weight out the boot!

With regard to opening the headlights - thats an oven job. The indicators are bonded and youd have to cut them apart

What Alex said was spot on whichever way you go about it wont be brilliant.

The rear springs normally lower the car 25-30mm whereas the front should be 35-40mm.
Cutting the front springs down slightly will drop it to the same height

hehe thanks mate, yeah slowly slowly progressing, although if I find the opportunity I sell the car and go for a better one, ie more powerful and with extras...

hmm :/ would not like to mess with the springs like that ... I measured from the arch to the floor and the rear dropped exactly 40mm and as for the front I forgot to measure before! so to balance it I may go the light weight route...no rear seats and stuff and no bass box ... maybe...

as for the oven job I'll skip it...tried it on an indicator and when heating it to close it back I ended up with a plastic pancake stupid me :roll:

hehe not at all :? ... could have spent the money else where on the polo.

heyy long time not posts...not much going on my polo apart from the usual maintenance. Have just fitted a pair of k&n panel filters, modified the airbox for more airflow and changed the fuel filter. Now what I would like to fix is my dodgy fuel meter...after a good run (pedal to the metal :P ) the gauge has a tendency of marking as empty and the light will turn on even if it is half or a little less full ... and it would remain stuck like that for as much as it likes, usually 2-3 days and goes back up!! I use to swipe the gauges with vag-com and that would solve the problem but it is not very convenient to scan it every time!! So does anyone know if it is a pump/sender problem or an instrument cluster problem??
