My current work commute (12.5 miles) I'm averaging between 35-38mpg. Can I expect this to be higher for my journey tomorrow?

Car is approaching 500 miles so hopefully this won't effect the 'break in' period too much. Would it be best to leave the car in Eco?
Just done a trip to London from Manchester and back. 450 ish miles in total.

Avg MPG was 53.5, did the whole trip in normal mode.

With the 50 zones, variable speed zones and open roads, I was able to keep adjusting my speed which is key in breaking in the engine.
You don't want to hold the same revs for hours on end.

Must also add, I started the trip with 500 miles like you.

Here in South Africa we use the metric system so forgive me if my conversion is incorrect but I'm currently getting 8.7L/100KM (±27mpg) and travelled 1150KM in two weeks. I'm confident these figures will improve once the engine is "broken-in" but I find it far too addictive keeping it "light on the throttle" :P
EDIT: The figure quoted above is for a 2019 Polo GTI 2.0L

Just thought I'd correct your mpg - 8.7L/100km = 1.9Gallons/62 Miles = 33mpg. Seems pretty average for short ish journeys in the GTI without trying to be frugal.

Today, the family stopped off at a few places (petting zoo, community farm (again to see animals) and a few stops along the Durham coastline. About a 25 mile loop. Made a point to do sedate acceleration and strictly adhering to the speed limits and got 44mpg in the new white GTI+ with 500 miles on the clock.

Easy to get mixed up when there are US Gallons (3.79L) and Imperial (UK) Gallons (4.58L) - usually the Yanks like to go bigger, not smaller! :D

Went to work 50 mins early today to beat the traffic and had the almost perfect commute - 12 miles, 36mph average trip speed = 38mpg in the new white one with just over 500 miles on the clock.

1000 Km on my polo GTI.
10 Km/l - only short city driving (normal mode). Not bad at all.
My Mazda 2 also from 2019 (1500cc) doing only 11 Km/l.

Consistently hitting 38mpg on my work commute now (12.5 miles). Just passed 900 miles total.

Hi all,

I have just registered to help on this question.
This is the kind of discussion that often irritates me.
So many factors but mostly it is the quality of the driver these days !
One place you can find some hard numbers on any car is here :
https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview ... owerunit=2

On this site many car owners religously enter fuel used at each tank and record over time.
I have been doing this for decades and many of my cars are here. Many of the "best owners"
(the most frugal) see this as a challenge to get the best numbers. So many cars and engines
it really gives you an idea of what can be achieved before buying (new or used).

I have systematically achieved over many many years and models fuel consumption
numbers that achieve over a full tank the average official number (mixed town and road),
and over say 40000 miles this number + 0.3l/100km (I am in France and do it the
continental way in litres per 100km). Both petrol and diesel. Its easier with diesel...

I have just bought a new polo and so far (300 miles) I am at 60mpg (still to be "run in").
Previously I owned a Golf estate (2016) with the 1.0tsi 115hp engine and dsg7 gearbox.
During 3 years and 26500 miles I managed an average of 57.5mpg, all driving conditions
distances and weather...

The problem wil downsized turbo petrol engines is you can achieve good and abysmal
numbers. By design my 1.0litre gives the possible power of a 1.5litre, torque of a 1.8litre,
and fuel consumption of a 1.0litre depending on turbo "on" or "off". If you drive with turbo
"on" (ie power and torque) you get the fuel figures of a 1.5 to 1.8litre engine.... On or off
arises from the wastegate valve open or closed depending on throttle usage. Mostly I drive
"off" and get excellent fuel economy, and only when needed turn it "on".

A few hints : -

* never drive in big cities (London, Paris, New York) only use public transport
* choose to go into town when the traffic is light
* never drive full speed on the motorway
* anticipate ahead to slow down by foot off accelerator, change down gears, never use brakes
* allow your speed to drop going up hills, and pick up again downhill
* show instantaneous fuel consumption in the centre of the dashboard and adapt
* change up as early as possible (petrol engine I typically like to be in the 1200 -1400 revs/min)

Pretty sure that's not possible in my car, which is the same as yours.
I would literally go nowhere.

I was on a little trip and I was courious how low a will get while using ACC. Main part was mostly straight road while doing 90km/h but part was on high way and part in city. On way back a took this photo :-D what an eco friendly car it can be :-D But I want more fun usualy so in long term I have around 8,5L/100km.
