Here I am sat at VW. Car nearly ready. Apparently the replacement media unit went in last time but no updates were loaded resulting in the same old problems. I've been told it would also have been the culprit causing all electrics to fail recently as it controls so much. So I've had updates downloaded to the vehicle and hopefully problem solved. Time will tell.

Update on reversing light. I spoke to my dealer today and he agreed that the reversing light was pretty useless. VW won't change the bulb to a brighter one so you would have to go down the unofficial route. The bulb type as far as I can tell is a P21w at 12 volts with a BA15s socket fitting. Halfords do a LED replacement which they say is slightly brighter than the standard and there are mixed reviews about how effective they are. The other thing to watch out for is that a non standard bulb could cause a warning light to appear claiming you have a defective bulb which could be annoying. Next time I will try the hazard lights whilst reversing in the dark and if that doesn't work I will refuse to reverse for any lazy bar steward who can't be bothered to go back a couple of metres and whilst expecting me to reverse back several hundred metres to let them pass!

i'm going to try and find the highest power LED lamp and hope that it puts enough load on the system to make it think the lamp is fine

unless it uses some sort of low power test voltage which might require some sort of modification to the lamp

I'll certainly post a good few photos as soon as I can, but guessing it'll be dark by the time I leave the dealers. :(

6" shifter is your friend or a wee 1/4" socket set. It's easy enough...
