I don't have an overwhelming desire to protect my car, no more than anything else in my property. Its a simple case of some w**k breaking into my home and me putting him out. If I am attacked or believe to be in danger of attack? then I would fight back to protect myself and do whatever I need to do to stop them harming me. Its called self defense. What is reasonable force? So the guy is coming at you with a knife with intent to stab you with it and quite possibly kill you in doing so. So I hit him with my baseball bat...its a natural and reasonable reaction I would have thought for anyone who feels their life threatened.
Besides....I waited a long time for this car and not going to roll over and just throw them the keys. Ok id take a different approach if I had family to think about. Anyway that's the last I will say on the matter. I'm not getting into a debate here about "A man and his castle and how he would protect it"

Self-defense isn't the scenario you painted earlier.
You painted the picture of being the aggressor, you making the 'first move' to violence.
Fools rush in, as they say.

Here's what you said in your first post, verbatem.

I live alone and they could come and sneak into my bedroom..im a very light sleeper. I would never make it easy for them. Let em try taking my keys and they get there head polished with the baseball bat I sleep with. This is why I have keys in my bedroom. It be rude not to come say hello before you try steal my car.

There's nothing there about self defense or knives, just you saying that them sneaking around your room would be enough to get them battered.
This is what I queried, you being the aggressor against someone and chancing a charge against you.
Why would you do that for a car?
You've since changed it to using the bat for self-defense if they attack you in the process, which is completely different and perfectly fair.

No......them sneaking around your room would be enough to get them battered...... is not so, but IF THEY went for my keys. Then I would attempt to protect my property and in the first instance tell them to go away and no one needs to get hurt, I would not be laying under the bed sheets with both barrels loaded and cocked waiting to blow their brains out as they walked through the bedroom door as you are making me out to be.

so id not say I was being aggressive, just taking the situation in hand as I saw it but hoping not having to light the fuse.

I don't want anyone for a second to think that I'm some 'snowflake' worrying about the burglar's rights.
Quite the opposite, I was worried the poster was too willing to go steaming in and compromise his position just to protect a car that is, when all is said and done, easily replaced.
Car theft isn't personal, so I don't understand why people take it that way.
Just do 'enough' to satisfy your insurance and cause you the least hassle if scrotes want it.

I response to question from S94. No. Just said it was unlikely to be delivered in March but depended on how long at port. Only worrying about their quarterly targets.

Seeing all these posts I feel both extremely lucky and also a bit sorry for everyone that has to wait so long for their car. I ordered mine beginning of March 2019 and have a planned delivery of the first week of July 2019. (week 28) 4.5months give or take. Can't complain I guess.

Are you friends with the boss of VW.

Anyone added, or thinking of adding, the Vodafone Tracker? Does anyone have any experience with vehicle trackers? Thanks!

I had a tracker on a previous car. I realised it worked when the car was put on a low loader by the car dealership, triggering a call from the monitoring centre asking if I knew where my car was. Warranty work. Even got a phone call from the tracker guys to say the battery level was low. This was because the dealership had disconnected the car battery for long periods. Was reimbursed. Yearly subscription. Not bothered with one since.

The issue with dealer fitted trackers is that thieves tend to know about these and where the dealer techs fit them, so it’s not unusual for thieves to rip out certain panels of stolen cars to locate dealer fitted trackers and dispose of them. If you do decide to go down the tracker route, you need to get very creative where you hide them, and decide if you really want to have a stolen and probably trashed car returned to you

In my case it wasn't dealer fitted. I had one of the main tracker companies come out to me and fit it. They arrive in unmarked vans....obviously.
A friend had one prior to me but didn't fit another to his next car, saying he'd rather it lost then get it back trashed/thrashed. In the end I felt the same.

Not that I know of But funny thing is, I was there a week before ordering and the wait was 10months (saw it on his screen, all black/red blocks in build planner) then the week after, he goes "they moved the production to South Africa, you can get it in 4.5months" ... What can I say, my hand started doing my signature in the air.. and he just placed a contract beneath it.
