Car is running really well at the moment. Not had any misfire issues with the higher power output although the gearbox does seem to be limiting the power sometimes. Felt it a few times on low rev pulls, but keeping the revs up and it whizzes along lovely.
Still waiting for a DSG map!

Right then, I'm off to RAF Marham on Sunday to do a 30-130 day.
The aim of the day is that you roar down an RAF airstrip and see how fast your car can do the 30mph to 130mph dash. There will be all sorts of exotic metal there and some highly tuned drag machinery - most of it road legal. As you can imagine I'm going along for the banter as well as the motors, but what time.....if any do you all think I will put in?
The airstrip is 1.5 miles long to the point you have to brake -
Will my car get to 130mph in 1.5 miles?
How many seconds do you think I'll be able to do it in if I can achieve it?
The most powerful cars can do it in under 10 seconds - that is 10mph increase every second!!
The worst time last year didn't manage it and that was a 220bhp Alfa Romeo!
The only clue I have is that my car now does 0-100mph in 12.3 seconds and can do 0-30mph in about 2.3 seconds, so 30-100mph in 10 seconds, so it is the 100-130mph that will be the stinger!

Im almost certain you will manage it, 130mph is doable in a 1km stretch from standing start

I'm hoping so. I've clocked the car using a Racelogic performance box as doing the 1/4 mile (400m) in 13.6 at 104.7mph, so surely in the next 1 and a 1/4 miles another 25.3mph is easily achievable, it is just how long it takes!!

Another update....
the Pace intercooler and radiator went on yesterday. A few minor fitting issues to get around, but nothing major to say that Pace haven't seen the car before. The quality of the welds and kit in general is phenomenally good. The radiator has 68% more cooling capacity over stock and the intercooler is 36% larger in volume than stock, so a good bit of extra cooling to be had even before the cooling benefits of the water methanol injection is considered. Re-routing the wiring that normally goes in front of the exhaust cat was the main bit of work as the bracket the wiring fits on no longer has ANY clearance for the radiator fan, in fact the fan vanes sat either side of the bracket with a 5mm overlap! Next up will most likely be rear brake upgrade to a 256mm vented Cupra set-up, some upgrade piping for the car (dunno whether to go coloured or stay black), an oil cooler as the one on the car is miniscule, and then look at the intake piping to the turbo as it looks quite restrictive.
Also on the to do list is a set of full engine mounts and at some point a DSG remap as soon as I can lay my hands on one!!!!

Hurdy, you car is smoking hot!

Great, you spent a lot of time and passion, congratulation...!!
Just a question: what about the test on the dyno? I read in your first posts that kick down option is not so easy to be managed as it always try to change on the lower gear...
Is it possible to exclude this function in some way...?
I found kick down very irritating also when driving in hill roads. Accettable when in D or S, I can't understand why is active also in manual...

A few mates had their 6Rs on the dyno, you need to go with very little throttle and change under 2000rpm till 4th, then floor it

The operator needs to have a feel for where the kickdown point is on the car. Simply pressing the pedal into the carpet will make it kickdown every time. The operator needs to apply about 90% throttle travel until the car has gone beyond 4.5k rpm and then press the pedal home.
Currently no-one has mapped the DSG to exclude kickdown, so we are stuck with it until someone does.
At the moment I'm on pauperband and my web is very slowwwwwww. BT cannot come out until the 4th April, so downloads of pics and vids will have to wait a while

The good news is I will be on Fibre optic broadband and 40meg when the issues are sorted.

I know people that exluded kick-down function on the DSG6, never heard about DSG7 unfortunately...
I really hate this function, not only on dyno, but also on the road you can't have for example a full throttle progression from 4.000rpm exiting from a turn...
Just bought the VAG cable yesterday, I'll try to crack the DSG...

Well I'm back from the 30-130 day and apart from the poor weather conditions ( rained nearly all day ) the baby GTI performed faultlessly. After discussions with people who had been before and looking at past result I had set myself targets of 30-130 at 25-30 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.
Top speed achieved was 142.97 mph ( showed as 160 mph on the speedo )
30-130 mph was done in 24.04 seconds
So mission achieved on both accounts.
What I didn't realise was that the airstrip wasn't flat, which I thought it would have been. There was a significant incline for the first third of the strip, then flat in the middle and then back to an incline for the last third. With this and the fact the surface was soaking wet the times for everyone weren't as good as expected. I had to start off the runs in third gear after finding out that a second gear start just ends up in a hail of wheelspin!
To give you all some idea of where I came in the overall standings, I came 38th out of 69 runners and beat some serious cars - R32, MKII Focus RS, beat some Scoobies too.
Not bad for a little 1.39 litre car eh?

Cheers dood
Next year's targets have been set at under 20 seconds for the 30-130 and a vmax run of over 150mph.

What are the future plans to get it down to 20 seconds? Purely power upgrades or are you going to lighten it too?
What was the fastest car there too? Best one I've seen at events like that was an MTM tuned RS6 with 700+ bhp

The plan is...
Custom map for the hybrid set up rather than the stage two map I have now - should give an extra 20-30bhp.
DSG map - rather urgent really as it slows the current set up
Pistons and rods - needed for later
Revised piping to de restrict certain parts of the car
Carbon bonnet and wings
Lexan tinted lightweight glass replacement
Full poly bushing of the suspension
Rear brake upgrade
Engine mount upgrade.
So plenty really.
The most powerful cars there were a 1000whp GTR35 and a 1013bhp lightweight scooby. The GTR did 217mph in just over a mile!!!
