Update on mine, my dealer are installing the rings/scrapers this week. Annoyingly they are never drawn on direct questions about the problem, only that they are acting on instructions from VW technical. I asked how much oil it had used during the 1000km test, but again they would not tell me, only that it fell into the limits such that changing the rings is the solution.
I will have to wait and see then.

I drive slowly 90% of the time would this make the smoke poor out when thrashed?! I find it funny how my exhaust tips are black and need cleaning and polishing atleast once a week as I cant stand them being black lol, my old man owns a 2011 GTD golf and his exhausts tips are as chrome as the day he got it brand new after 1700 miles and even when it's thrashed no smoke!
My MK6 Golf GTI has black exhaust tips too and doesn't burn any oil. Just need to clean them

Best of luck with this and hope this cures the problem?

Hi John,
Yes mine is progressing, spoke to my dealer today. I did not realise they would remove the engine/gearbox to do this work but apparently they have.

Hi daydotz, I am not sure I understand what you are asking here? You mean the 1000km test or 625 miles?

Blimey tt509 another one in at the same time. I wonder how many other Polo GTI's are having this work done, it must be costing VW a lot.

JohnPolo you have provided some useful info and case law on rejecting cars you must be considering this? I have rejected mine and I am just working through my options with VW.

Hi Edi30,
I was considering it mainly because my dealer was taking so long to even begin the fix. I've had my car nearly 1 year so whether I got a full refund or a straight swap would be something my solicitor would have to argue, I did speak with him last week. I love the car and think it's fair to let them attempt a fix but if I find it hasn't worked and the oil issue remains then a reject of some sort will be inevitable. I remember a mate of mine buying a new Cooper S. He'd had it around 9 months I think and it developed gearbox probs. He wanted a new car from them but in the end despite his persistence they insisted on a token £900 for wear and tear on the last car before agreeing. He agreed and got a new car from them. Despite the case law I think it still depends on the personal circumstances, and who is dealing with it. I'll be very interested in what they decide with you, keep us informed.

I may have it confused 625 / 1000km are these not the same test ?
