Genuine question for everyone looking for even more power from the engine - how're you going to get the power translated into forward motion? I'm already capable of spinning the stock tyres in almost anything any conditions other than bone dry!
I assume you are going for wider, stickier rubber but this'll bring its own issues. Looking at the 0-60 times of this vs some other cars with nearly 100 bhp more, the GTI's already well on the pace and I'm struggling to think of a situation where I'd want any more pace on public roads. If you're going to properly race them then fair enough but you'll want to be taking stuff out of the car before any other mods I'd have thought.

I used to have a 9n3 with 230bhp and 250 ft/lbs and that coped fine with the power so I'm sure this new one will be fine.
I think the oem tyres where a little bit of a trade off as I will definitely not be fitting the same again as I don't think there that good.
It all depends on how you drive as you don't have to floor or maybe with extra power you might not need to change down

I had the Potenzas on my ST and they were fine, bit soft but grippy which is what you expect with a softer compound tyre. I actually put another front pair on it as well.

already got springs, intercooler and a couple of little bits sat waiting for once the car is here

What inter cooler have you got? The only one I've seen at the moment is the forge motorsport one which would be OK to start with

Thats what i have.. its from my 1.4 GTI so hopefully it'll fit

In terms of power my old 1.4 GTI had 240bhp and took it on track + fast road use

never had an issue laying down the power if you drive it right and put money into high quality/sporty tyres

We had first snow here at my place and I took my GTI on a spin at a local stadium's car park. Oh boy, once I've switched ECS in sport mode it was so much fun to slide. I know it's not the same as in a RWD/AWD, but going sideways with a little bit of handbrake can be so much fun
Below few photos from my visit at a detailer for cleaning:

Looks gorgeous! I may be biased but the GTI looks so smart complete with the pano roof.

Joined this site in September for a bit of info but after a few months of waiting to pay off my current car a bit more, hoping to be putting in an order for a Polo GTI this weekend
I couldn't get a test drive of one at all as there are none as demonstrators in my area, so having a go in a Blue GT on Saturday to give me a feel for the Polo but I know the GTI should be much better
I can see a few people on here have made the jump from a Fiesta ST and I am planning on doing the same. I know the Polo is a more grown up car and might not be as fun in the corners but me and my girlfriend are going to be sharing a car now and want something a bit more refined, practical (5 doors) and classy. Hoping that it is still fun on the right road too, hence I have got a price with the Sport button added!

Hello m8, sounds like the GTi will suit u fine. I tested the Blue GT to get a feel and the suspension set up is the same in ride quality, but the GTi has plenty more grunt. I came from a Fiesta Zetec S and really the only thing I miss is the Sony stereo.

Hope so as I do like my ST but the interior is dated and it would be nice to have some rear doors. Is the sound not great on the Polo stereo then?
I hate the layout of the Sony stereo in the Fiesta but admit the sound is pretty good.

Its not as good as the Sony one no, but then again u can turn the bass up without the plastic grills on the speakers rattling like they did on my fiesta lol

Well I put the tuning box in to take it up to roughly 240bhp last week and I've found it easy enough to put the power down even in the wet conditions. I agree with you that it's pretty easy to get the wheels spinning if you accelerate into a bumpy corner too quickly or something but generally it puts the power down quite impressively and I'd imagine as the roads dry up again over the spring that it'll be even more fun to drive. When the time comes to change tyres I will definitely opt for better ones, but at the moment the stocks are performing ok.
I'm not intending to properly race mine at all but it's nice to be able to completely pull away from mates or keep up with (and beat) cars that are expecting to leave you for dead at traffic lights. It's just even more fun with the extra power.

That doesn't bode well for the Polo then. I think the Sony unit in my ST is rubbish.
