Imo you need 300hp before talking about being quick. I'd describe the polo gti as a nippy wee toy.

300hp in the polo before you could call that quick or just 300hp in any car? A friend has a supercharged Exige with only 220 hp but that's bloody quick.. HP is only half the story!

I'll be more specific. 300horse in a normal daily hack that can carry more than two people.

Suppose it's a case of perspective. I drove lots of 300+ horse cars in my younger days...and when I had an interest in cars lol now I'm old and sensible I dont need lairy evos and mad green rs' :(

So popped into VW to sort out my private plate and get a quick update. Looking at about 2-3 weeks from now until I pick up the car [emoji16]

And to make the wait harder they now have a black GTI outside for sale.. Image

I'm happy overall with my Polo but I'm not sure about the handling and how big the difference is with ST. I'm tempted to have another look at the ST but don't want to bother if there isn't a big difference in handling. I do worry about the firm ride and what this would be like to live with long term. The Polo set up is firm enough for me and there's no tram-lining etc.
I was paying more a month for my Fiesta, which now I've got a wee one whos nearly 3 weeks old I was deciding to try cut costs for her and to get a mortgage sorted so I wanted something similar but a bit cheaper hence getting the Polo. I can honestly say there's a huge difference in handling, any one who says different hasn't driven the Fiesta. Infact last night I drove the other half's prefacelift Zetec S and it handles far better than the Polo. The ride, however, on these roads is hard. It doesn't bother me greatly but it did bother passengers on occasion. On Wednesday night some guy messaged me on Facebook, basically he got my name of the V5 and wanted to thank me for keeping my Fiesta immaculate which depressed me a bit.

I've tried the ST last year before going with the Polo and it does handle better. You could get the back end of my previous basic Fiesta to waggle without fear of losing it and I wouldn't want to try the same in my Polo as it doesn't give you the same level of feedback imo. That said I'm not the greatest driver! I remember on the road test that at lower speeds the ST was very bouncy and might have got on my nerves in the end. I have looked at finance and there are a lot of good deals around for ST2s but I would have to pay out more and lose out on goodies I have on the Polo. So I'm going to stay with what I've got for now and see what the ST looks like when they bring out a new model in 2/3 year's time.

Is there any reason why the email confirming the build week has a different date to the tracker? Tracker says 01/02/16 but the email says 08/02/16. Hopefully the tracker is telling the truth!

Tracker information/updates is shocking really.. one of mine states 11/01/16 'build week confirmed' yet its past said date and hasn't progressed. However the other one said 4/11/16 'build in progress' and still on that stage now. Rather not have any form of tracker than one that is useless :o

Does end of the month sound realistic? i think they are just pulling my leg because i told them i'll be canceling if it takes much longer..
My tracker went

12/11 Build week confirmed
28/11 Left Factory
10/12 Arrived in UK
15/12 Arrived

Never got anything for build in progress lol so there's a good chance you could have it by the end of the month, maybe first week of Feb?
They always over estimated times with me so I'd hope they wouldn't tell you porkies.
Over estimate sounds good! My tracker has so far gone:

Ordered: 8/1/2016
Factory Processing: 10/1/2016
Build Week Confirmed: 1/2/2016

Now I'm (im)patiently waiting for the 1st February but looking at the average times I think I'm going to be looking at the middle of March.

Oh it takes me back to last year, willing the tracker to update.
Mine was being delivered the week I was doing jury service. Luckily the trial ended the judge released us and off I went to get my car just in time for my birthday.
Not too long now most of you. Enjoy!!

If anybodies android phone isn't copying your contact photos over to the car(mine used to until Lollipop update) then this little app sorts the problem. I installed it and re-copied my contacts over and all photos were there against the names. You can check it works with the free trial version but this changes 1 digit in your numbers hence you you have to pay. Still only £1.29 so cheap enough.

Plus I've had the 'conversation' with my better half and the ST is absolutely off the menu (well at least for the next two years)! Nice long drive today and the Polo is very good on sweeping bends and accelerating out of roundabouts. So I'm sticking with it! Might buy a cheap MX5 for summer weekend use - that's ok apparently!

By chance are you running Bridgestone S001s? If so that'll be where the bulk of the feedback has gone. They're designed to be long lasting over handling.

I spoke with VW about why they supply these tyres and the reply was that they offer maximum value for money for the owners due to longevity. Between the lines it's because the majority of Polo GTis are purchased with monthly maintenance that also covers tyres, so its in VWs interest to supply tyres that will last as most will survive 16000 to 20000 miles over two years meaning you have paid for maintenance that you likely won't use and if you scrub your tyres too quickly you'll find that isn't covered either.
