It struggles to fit the other way round. Think you get a bit more space in a 16v. Thats the only way I could see of facing it. The run to the fog light wouldn't be too much shorter and then your touching the hot pipes, which can wear the hose down and possibly warm the air. The way i've run it its avoiding hot points. The way through the front would be the only other option. But then that would have to be on the left (looking face on) to avoid the radiator. So that would only save 6/8 inches. The only bonus is cold air would be blown straight down it. Also i've got the added bonus of the noise echoing in the wheel arch! 8)

Thats where I ran my K&N and Tim also suggested it. Good place for air but the hot radiator pipes can cause trouble to the cold air feed pipe. The way i've ran it it avoids any hot parts/air so hopefully keeping the incoming air cool. Cheers for the suggestion though.

The one you've got now runs straight across the face of the Manifold.

The journey meanders way too much for a cold air feed IMO.

I'd go with the fog light 8)

Here's another two little extras i've got.....

I removed the chome badge and bought a black badge and added it to the colour coded rear.

Also found a black mirrored finish 3rd brake light to match the black hella's as suggested. Have fitted it and does look a lot better now 8) .

i moved my cold air feed from the position in this picture a wedged it infront of the battery so it was nice and far away from the engine and was suckign cold air from the wing up

May look into soon. At the moment i'm enjoying the noise of it echoing in the wheel arch :)

I did a 100ish mile trip and afterwards checked/felt the cold air feed and it was relatively cool compared to the rest of the engine.

It's not really the heat you want to worry about, every spot is going to have some fall. It's mainly down the the length it's got to travel for before it reaches the BMC. Think about how much forced the air is if it's half the length.

I've mounted m9 behind the front grill for a RAM style intake. I used both the old and new BMC piping to get the best fit. Can sum1 tell me how to post pictures so i can post sum piks of it up on here.

True. I dont think its worth moving to next to the battery as theres no where for cold air to enter (unless theres a hole like the opposite side, will check). If not i'll probably make a hole and have it facing out the front. That keeps it away from hot pipes and will force the air in quicker and give it a good flow and also shorten the route. Gonna have a look tomorrow and get the bumper off. I'll give you an update afterwards. Thanks for advice guys.

Nice one mate. I wash there was more space in the GTi so I could make a hole in the front behind the grill also.

once your above 40-50mph the bay is full of cold air anyway so it doesn really matter where it goes, but as tim says its the length, and if you want a good sounds behind the battery is good as it resonates in the wing!

Took sum pics of my RAM style intake. If followed correctly it will increase your top speed from 107 to 120mph (proven) 8) !!!

1) Cut a hole behind the front grill on the left side.

2) Using the old plastic piping from the old VW intake box cut off the plastic bendy bit as shown below:

3) Attach the cut pipe to the BMC intake pipe.

4) Now attach the modified piping to the BMC CDA and put the plastic end through the hole on the front grill. The grooves on the plastic pipe will clip in to the hole cut ensuring that the intake does not move around. You will now have a RAM style intake with no massive long pipes!!!

Cheers for the guide mate but I've just finished moving it. :)

I've done exactly what you've done, but haven't used the original intake and what Tim suggested and put it striaght out the front. Looks a lot neater in the bay as I could attach the old cold air feed and the new run looks neater. Took some pics while doing it but it got too dark. So the two below are just where I drilled the hole. I will post the completed pics up tomorrow, and hopefully clean it! I agree performance and efficiency will be increased but the noise will be quieter. I ended up cutting off 530mm of pipe! Just under half I think.

Thanks for your tips and advice guys. A great help once again.
