Building cars in South Africa for the European market isn't exactly convenient for the customer.
Convenience doesn't register with car manufacturers.
Some European car manufacturers were 'flat-packing' their cars in Europe and sending them to China for final assembly.
Honestly, the hassle/time/pollution involved in that, but all they care about is cost and they reckon it's worth it.
But why should they care when people are willing to wait 9 months or more for a relatively humdrum car like the Polo?
In fact, the really weird thing about car buyers is that some people view a long wait as a good thing!!
It's marketing genius to make people think waiting is a sign of quality/desirability/whatever.
It's mental.
