Oh, I'm happy with 40mpg, it's what I've been aiming for since I bought the car and realised that 34mpg isn't actually all that great for a small 1 litre. I'm currently running a tankful of economy testing - driving like an old granny (or rather driving like I used to before I realised that the engine actually does rev above 2,000 rpm...). So far I've done 80 miles and it's only registered 1/4 tank having been used, so I'm hopeful that this is going to return some pretty decent results. Thing is, being pleased with 40mpg is one thing.. having a car which does at worst 50mpg would be something completely different - might even be able to afford the social life that the car was meant to be instrumental in obtaining in the first place

Anyone had any experience of pug 205's, for better or for worse? I'm getting quite tempted by a 205 d turbo, sounds like they're decent old cars... can't for the life of me find an owners forum though, which would be helpful. Might just be something to look at for after uni or something..

Guy from uni was driving one last i knew, might still do - and its not even a turbo, just a 205 D. Great surfing pony, apparently - four guys, boards on the roof, wet suits, towels, tent and a tarp in the boot, with crates of tinnies, portable barbies and suitable munch on your laps... Not screamingly fast, but enough torque to drag that lot across welsh hills to the best beaches, quite efficient and reliable.
And to top it, he (temporarily) lost his license in it. though it was at all of 42mph, which he successfully contested on the grounds of needing the car for work and uni, and the van being set up in a complete bastard of a location, basically catching every single car coming down a monster hill where NSL became 30 at the bottom
