thanks to eBay - I don't want any re-issues you see
lol im feeling kind of the same way about my (increasingly ancient) bon jovi discs... couple of them are scratched to death, from before i mp3d everything (and before i learnt to treat non-caddy optical discs with
utter reverence) and nearly to the point of being unplayable. however from the mp3s i was donated by some kind people online (true - i got it from DC++, but it was thru talking to folks as searches were turning nothing up) it seems the ones you can get in the shops these days are the awful, "technical masterpiece" (bleugh - bad word to use with rock), incredibly over-compressed dynamic range digital remasters (digital f**k-overs more like).
time to get ont' 'bay, or the more obscure wing of Amazon Marketplace, to hunt down the first editions instead... (say what you like about the band, their instrument arrangements were always spot-on, and needless "radio play" volume compression destroys all that stuff which is otherwise great to listen to with headphones underneath a quiet starry sky. i hate digital remastering people... its not needed unless the original was totally crapped up). The dynamic range in the original recordings was huge, enough that the tape version of 7800'F sounds different to the CD (and its by no means a great album neither!) .. squishing it down to 10db or less is aural murder.

I mainly like Hip Hop, RnB, but am also into Jazz and Soul and quite a few bands from the 70's 80's and 90's.
Currently got John Legend, R.Kelly, and the Definitive Drifters album in the car.
Anything goes for me really. Just don't like classical and trance music.

Because Microsoft are crap and have the Monopoly?
Burn CD's with Nero mate, so many features you can do. If you have poor quality MP3's you can use the Equalizer to boost quiet frequencies, you can take away the 2 second pause (Good for live mixes) there's loads you can do... older copies of Nero are dirt cheap too.

are you sure its not a cd related issue?
you'll find alot of cd-r's and cd-rw's will not work in car cd-players these days, many a time i've sent packs of maxell and the like back for a refund and been declined. apparently its a stealthy way of cutting down on fraud like mp3 downloading
ones i currently use are Logik cd-rw's they are fantastic

hmm i thought media player recorded in a wma file format. I know my pioneer headunit plays wma mp3 and wav formats.so it might be a head unit thing

i'm siding with the "because ms media player is bobbins" argument
That, or you have crap discs and its just coincidence you've used better ones with a different program. Can't see how burning an audio cd can come out differently with one program than another, its a strictly laid out format. Or are they mp3/wma cd-roms? (THOSE can be screwed about with quite badly).
I've found memorex, and occasionally maxell (nowhere near as much though!) to have bouts of particularly shocking badness, for such big name brands! ESPECIALLY as memorex built its empire on a promise of superior quality..... worst discs i ever used, worse than the 20p cheapie spindle ones i have now!
anyway..... its not hard to get yourself a decent program to do it with mate, and it neednt even cost... there's FREEWARE thats better than media player in all aspects!
(mind you i still go back to it --- the simple v6.4 thats in win98 anyway --- for playing videos, as it does it perfectly and faff free)
something like fireburner* for cds
free version of musicmatch jukebox for mp3 encoding, or CDex for better quality (but much slower) rips
etc etc
oh, and avoid WMA format like the plague. Unless you use max quality (biiig files) it does evil things to the music, worse than mp3. still not universally compatible. etc. its a sign of WMPs poorness that you can no longer make anything BUT them without paying extra
* is that a real name? theres something free - not cracked/illegal - that my brother has for cd burning thats similar at least. i use nero though... came with the cd drive and is just dandy. Though if you're making VideoCDs it's not super hot.
PS the only real cure for a poor quality mp3 is downloading a better quality one! though the equalizer can help in the worst cases (or those where it all goes to hell above 16khz, and you can just save it by cutting the higher frequencies completely)
