gti finally being turbd!!!!
simmer down!
...just re-typing the web address, I’m sure I’m on porka!
guys you are both making good points! And I agree with both of you to a point, if a job is worth doing its worth doing well. but if you put the work in yourself, like fitting the hardware you can get it done at a reasonable price. i worked out I (myself) could buy the parts *incl forged pistons and fit the kit, then trailer the car to someone who can map the car for about £4000. and doing things properly i think i could get 200bhp.
Now this fella with the lupo may be running quite a small charger as rotrex offer a good range, and maybe when he wants to run BIG boost he will upgrade the pistons.
poussou it seems to me that you know ALLOT about the engine in theory but your not a hands on kind of guy... just try and calm the replies down a bit and remember people don't like to be talked to like they are stupid!
jezmk4 you and your car seem to be a dark horse! (Bugger, I’m racing him at the pod! Bugger)

I DO know a lot about the GTI engine, mainly cause i have already been through the steps most of you are so shy to make, and decided to take whatever route i did weighing the money vs the benefit. But i also have at least the BASIC knowledge of how and what is neccesary to turbo a previously N/A engine.
I don't think i am just a theoretical person, since i have done most of the stuff myself, but trust me, head skimming and port &polish are NOT some of them (if thats your point...).
Living in a country where there aren't ANY insurance policies like in the UK, there are 1.4 cars with 300 Horsepower roaming the streets.Over here, what you people consider a radical tune (remapping for example) is almost done in the first few km of a cars life, just cause there is no law against it.Having said that, plz alow me to have different opinions about what tuning is, and how it should be done.
I serously don't think i am coming on hard on people, its just my way of letting people know SOME thinks are not how you may read them in a magazine, but must rather be done with great caution and consideration.
As for the pal that aksed about what i have done to my car, i can tell you to look a bit further in the forum posts and you will find the whole tuning story along with a dyno graph of my cars performance.
And one last thing...If i could get 27 Wheel HP out of the Gti engine, and your friend with the Lupo gets 30 crank with his DIY turbo....i would again choose the N/A route......Think about that a bit...

f**k
I just wrote the longest post ever in relation to this topic, but I closed the window by accident before hitting submit.
Anyway, to summerise:
1. Don't get into the "Foreigner" BS. I will get very annoyed if you do.
2. You get what you pay for, as with everything in this life. Often "Cheap" means ugly and unreliable, and "Expensive" means pretty and reliable.
3. I agree with Possou most of the time, I respect what he's done to his car, and the knowledge he brings to the forum... I just think that sometimes he needs to re-read his posts before hitting submit to make sure he comes across as being friendly... That is what this forum is all about... Sharing knowledge and making friends.
4. The same goes for the rest of you!
5. I got Nitrous on my GTi because it was new and innovative in the GTi Tuning Scene at the time... But I made sure I had the best possible kit and the best and most flawless install I could get. If I had gone for a Turbo or Supercharger, I'd have made sure again, that I had the best kit and install possible. I love my cars, and want them to be as pretty and reliable as they can be.
Just my 20p

And here's my view on things..Josh_PoloGTi wrote:****

1)For me there are NO foreigners in a forum, and thats for ONE SIMPLE REASON.There are no countries in the Internet, and the server base country is not enough to justify such a term. Thus, it would be really stupid to start labeling one as such......
2)I agree with that view, and the main reason is that someone would ALWAYS find ways to help people the BEST way possible, and NOT the cheapo one, since you can't get your money back from the person who just ruined your care with his silly advice of using substandard materials and/or work.Once again...this is the internet....
3)I will agree with you Josh even on this view, and trust me i have re-read most of my posts and do agree they could be more on the light side...
BUT.....
I am sick and tired of listening to folks about how their "mate" tunned their Gti, and how its soooo easy to do, and how 2K will get you 200HP and crap like that. There are SOOO many people in forums that haven't got A CLUE as to the peculiarities of a specific engine, and all they do is spread false information, give bad advice and in the end just plain don't know what the hell they are talking about.
To sum it up...I hate ignorance and fake show off's.....
Sharing knowledge is one thing.Distorting it...is another....
4)I also respect what you have done to your car, and God knows i wouldn't have the guts to do it to mine. You chose a different path, but as you said, you did it after (i'm certain) VERY carefull consideration.Wouldn't it hit your nerve if someone would just start spreading info like.."it can be done with 300 Pounds, its sooo easy.." e.t.c when YOU KNOW that is not true, and it eventually may lead to someone being conned by some smart arse tunner???That is my problem.Giving false hope to people that are just geting into the "tuning" game, and simply are still pretty naive.Wouldn't you wanna protect them???Especially on a serious forum???
Thats my opinion.
