scirocco is definetely on my list of cars that i wanna own in my lifetime, anyone know what kindof performance you get in a 1.8 scirocco e.g bhp, 0-60 and top speed?

I know, the seller was suprised I was just going to turn up and drive it half way round london in the dark, but hey, nothing to lose Guess I'm just a bit complacent with older cars after the polo, drove that for many many miles at a time without a hiccup - probably would have been wise to be a bit more cautious with an unfamiliar car though

Scirocco certainly should be on your list of cars to own.. unless you happen to like carrying passengers (I can't sit up straight on the back seat, I'm only 5'11..). It's good enough that my dad took it out earlier and it's got him thinking about buying a mk2 golf gti (rocco's give him a bad back..) to replace his MG ZS
Specs on the 1.8i are the about same as the Golf GTi:
112.0 BHP (121.74bhp/tonne)
0-60 in 9.6 seconds
Top speed ~ 120mph
Reasonably cheap to run as well, I averaged 35.6mpg on the way back and that was not a very smooth drive being unfamiliar with the car. I recon if I took it gently it'd be good for about 40mpg on a motorway cruise, which is about what my polo gave me

i picked my G40 up for stratford in london. drove it all the way home from there. quite a long trip suprising i hadn't even driven the beast before hand! i went to see the car, had a look around it etc. then went home again, offered a price, haggled, then picked it up a few weeks after xmas after a couple of jobs had been done! the old owners were kind enough to pick my dad and i up from the station too!

o and that was my first time driving in london!

Sound recordings are the moment would just pick up a rather nasty grinding sound from the fuel pump But I'll get that fixed later, will see what I can do

Btw, correction to the above specs:
0-60: 8.3secs
112.5lb.ft / 153 Nm torque (3500rpm)
118mph top speed
Fuel consumption: 28.5mpg urban / 50.4mpg at 56mph / 39.2mpg at 75mph.

looks cool GC, needs a bit of treatment but by the way you cleaned your polo up i'm guessing it'll be looking mint within a year.

Yeah, I'll get it sorted pretty quickly, there's really not much to do at all. Couple of tiny chips / scratches that need filling in, need to fit a stereo (will just take the one out of the polo and replace it with the original system), need to get the tracking/alignment done, the wheels need refurbishing, and the engine bay could do with a clean up, but that's just about all. I'd say it's pretty immaculate for a 118,000 mile car

if your refurbishing the alloys yourself i'd recommend that you don't lol pay someone else...just doing the last finishing touches to my polished scalas and they've taken sooooo much work

good looking car mate, a real gem! engine looks so small in that engine bay!

Hah, no, after trying to refurb a set of 9 spokes last year I'm not going there again - huge amount of effort for a pretty shoddy finish. Plus, the scalas are diamond cut so polishing them would be a right pain. I'll just have to leave them until I've got enough money to have them professionally done.. going to make them quite a high priority though, don't want them to corrode too far

Cheers Big old engine bay compared to the polo, isn't it Having a hell of a time getting my head around that engine though.. I'd got so familiar with the polo's engine having dismantled it, I just don't know where to start with this! I think a good clean and tidy is in order before I go much further though

tell me about it! mine were diamond cut with laquer and i spent bout 80% of my total refurb time sanding down the alloys about 1mm all over, absolute nightmare, plus it compramised the finish of it too meaning spending about double the time polishing to make it presentable

Nasty Definately I think I'll be leaving this one to the professionals for once, just can't bring myself to spend that much time sanding and polishing again.
