ok i have a new polo gti and sorry but i think there is absolutley no competition between the two polo gti's the 6n are slugish and poor handeling and tbh i dnt think there worthy of the gti badge i have driven several of them and there all the same the only thing i like about them is the xenon headlights... the new GTI however (which i have had now for 3 months and has loosened up) cand stay on the back bumper of a 172 clio up till 100 mph then starts to overtake... ( if there not much diff in speed the go try thin in a 6n gti)and as for the price there starting price is £14810, and the mk5 golf gti starting price is actually £20360, thats 5 grand differance quite a lot of money if ya ask me! the new GTI lives up to the name and is a superb car to drive brilliant throttle responce and good handling, sorry if am b***h just dont appreciate ppl slating cars when they dont have a clue!

Bit harsh there mate. You're comparing two cars that were made 6 years apart and to say that it wasn't worthy of the GTi badge is complete nonsense.

It was also a 6N2 not a 6N, (6N GTi didn't make it to this country).

You say you 'just don't appreciate ppl slating cars when they don't have a clue!' Maybe you should have a think about what you've said there.

I agree with Del on this, you may have driven a couple of the older GTi's but to say they don't deserve the badge is silly.

Again as Del said, the GTi was made 6 years ago, a time when there wasn't really much that beat it spec wise, and it could compete with other small hatches.

The new GTi will be faster, it may only have 25bhp extra but it's a 1.8T, everyone knew it would be quicker.

No-one slates it, they just say that all it is, is a mini Golf GTi which it is.

The starting price is also in standard trim, which not a lot of people would want I wouldn't have thought, you could pick up a second hand MK5 Golf GTi for about the same money as a spec'd up Polo

And the 6N2 is still better looking

ok notice for a start i also refered to the 9n polo rather than the 9n2 just presumed every one would know what a was goin on about... obviously not!!

yes in my opinion which i am entitled to the "6N2" polo GTI was slugish and doesnt handle very well i have driven several of them, as i work for vw, there just nowhere near as fun to drive!!

ok so the "9N2" polo might look like the golf GTI but the Golf GTI is the No1 selling hot hatch in Europe at last count prob the world by now so y not make a smaller version for ppl who cant afford the insurance on the golf!!

as as for the "6N2" lookin better ...... on yer bike!!!!

as people have said the 2 cars were made 6 years apart and vw have put a lot of attention in2 getting the new golf and polo gtis up to scratch in the handling stakes recently!

the 9n3 gti (9n2 is a mk6 saloon which never made it to the uk) should handle better after all this development but tht doesn't mean the 6n2 gti handles badly, not by a long way!!

and faster? i think the 2 may be quite equal tbh! if u gave both a bit of stick, i think they'd both get to 60 in under 8 secs.
the new gti has the turbo which would help it a bit, but the old one is lighter!
i think the new gti is more tunable aswell which is always good!

overall i like both cars very much, i have sat in a new gti and i was very impressed, they look much much nicer in the flesh and to be honest i may seriouly consider one in the future!
i used to have a mk5 polo and i still love that shape and feel it is the best looking of the polo range! not dissing how the others look but that is what i feel!
the old gti came with bbs and xenons as standard which were big selling and re-selling points and just gave it a special feel and i think it was worthy of the gti badge!

I know I was driving a non-Mk7 Polo for a few month I'd like to add a few things. The Mk7 is a lot more ergonomic and user-friendly on the inside, but the Mk5 is just as well built, if not a tad better. Coming from a Fiesta I expected handling to be poor in the Mk7, but it was as good as. Then when I got the GTI I noticed a big improvement. Now the FSI had sports suspension, but I'd think the Mk7 GTI would be as good as. I also expected the Mk5 to not feel half as smooth as the barely 6 month old Mk7, but it was, and there wasn't a lot of road noise either

Aside from the TSI engine, my personal combo would be a remapped PD130 with the GTI styling

Saw it yesterday at a showroom, looks really nice! Will go well once people start mapping them!

Looks like i will be able to knick a few parts from it for my 9N

, how much diffrence is there (performance wise) between the polo gt-130, and the the gti, is there that much

Mk5 Polo GTI has 125bhp and does 0-60 in 8.4, new GTI has 150bhp and does 0-60 in 8.2. Obviously the Mk7 is a much larger and therefore heavier car, and add the fact the 1.8T is in its lowest state of tune, the result is a 0-60 gain of only 0.2

Yea not a great deal at first but for saying 150bhp in the mk5 is pretty hard and you can see 300 in a 20v means the new gti is much faster when tuned

Anyone know how the sales of the new GTI are going so far?

The Used Car section of the VW website now has a good crop of them for sale as used, presumably dealers demo models. All around £14k...take your pick.

Check my new pics...... I'd rather stick with my TDI 130 than have the new GTI any day. Just as fast and a whole lot more economical!

... and a quite a lot more expensive too... don't know the prices in UK (presumably where you're from) but around here when converted to GBP a diesel polo 130hp is 2 thousand pounds more expensive.

I dont know if that's some "smart" guy's idea of pricing here but it turns out it's a lot cheaper to buy a GTI which includes ESP, better suspension, alloy rims and climate control as standard. And in the TDI 130 you have to pay extra even for the fog lights... now how reasonable is that? Are things similar in UK?
