I have also taken the reflector out but nothing took the screws out the bottom of the door card too and could see nothing. But looking on vagcat there are 4 different wiring harnesses listed. So I am thinking we don’t have the wire for the lights.

No wiring is okay, just need to add wiring as per the ones that had lights fitted - it should be possible to glean this info from Haynes wiring schematics. One thing to watch out for though is , don't expect to find an actual switch you can tag onto in the doors to bring on the interior lights on, the switch built into the door handle/lock mechanism, will only be used to talk back to the relevant controllers - ie it will not available to source or sink anymore voltage or current. Remember it is used to prime the fuel system (on petrol engines anyway) and talks to the central locking system as well as switching the interior lights on.

This isn't going to end up being one of these after delivery dealer fit kits that VW made available and told no one about them so you only discover them being sold off on ebay - is it? Examples I know about being "lane changing function" for Golf IV & Passat + retro fitting heated seats for Golf IV and Passat - I'm sure that there will be quite a few more we never get to know about until they get dumped on ebay!

I've not had chance yet to get the door card off, might get chance soon.
As for the your question RUM4MO, yes both lights do come on with 1 door open.
It looks like the interior light doesn't like me, it only worked for a day after i thought i'd fixed it.
The interior light itself can be easily taken apart, so i used some emery paper on the contacts but it broke again. Because the switch is so simple, could it be some other problem i dont know about ?

Thanks for the replies.

If it helps anyone, our 2002 1.2S (3dr) has these lights, and very nice they are too. No idea if they were an extra or standard on the car at the time - it was new to us last week. It's an 02 so one of the earliest 9N's to roll off the forecourt, I think.

Could do with some tips/ help here.
Still not fixed this interior light problem.
It looked like the 3 wires on the loom had been crushed when refitting the light, i cut these out and re-connected but still no joy, so checked ALL fuses and couldn't find a problem.....i've not got a multimeter so i dont know if the light is getting a feed or not, dont know where to turn next ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
