Ahhh I love the escorts! Is it the earlier big turbo model or later small turbo?

The escort cosworth has been my dream car since I was young. Scared to drive one now incase im dissappointed. What are they like by modern hot hatch standards? Should still be quick i would imagine?

Under your dads name and you as a named is USUALLY cheaper. But having your own policy with your dad as a named would be alot more benficial as you'd gain your own NCBs.

whats the deal with those 10 month policies? would they count as NCB with another insurer or would they just be applicable with bell?

That's something I need to check myself. I read the small print but it didn't seem to saying anything about it. I reckon it's quite likely that it would only apply to them. But it's worth ringing them up and checking.

I got mine at 19, now 21. My insurance came down from £1800 to £1300 this year aswell (I only started my own policy last year, and all mods are declared). I could get it for £900 if the car was standard lol.

I'm 18 now, and could insure a GTI on my mums insurance with me as a named driver for £1580, but i've decided to keep my 1.0 6n2 and have my own fully comp insurance so i can get my own no claims bonus for when i'm 20/21, when i'm gonna look into buying an S3.

I did a year with DirectLine on my mums policy, assuming i would have my own no claims at the end of the year like it said on the advert, turns out its a bit of a scam and only usable with Direct Line.

My insurance is £1600 now on my own policy fully comp, and i'm happy with my Polo for the next year or two.

Would like a GTI though, but it wouldn't be cheap on my own policy.

Your story sound's almost exactly like mine, went with DL thinking I'd get ncb as a named driver on my mums policy, turns out only with DL  Can get insured on a GTI with me as the main driver for £1700, which is still daylight robbery, but I am 18 and only have 1 years driving experience to my credit, Still after long deliberation I've decided I'm going to make the move as soon as I can sell my Mk5 :D

the corsa is a m reg 1.5 d merit, i had to start a new policy with that one which meant i couldn't transfer any no claims bonus, but they did take in to account the ncb i had on the other policies
