Sorry for the thread hijack!
I bought my Polo GTI from JCT600 Wakefield 6days ago.
It has this Syncromesh problem. I never noticed during the test drive as I didnt push first gear. It shifts fine below 2-3krpm but above this, no matter how slowly you change gear, it crunches.
The car is a 2007 and has done 30400miles. I have warrenty on the car, will this be covered?
Surely cant say its wear and tear when Ive only done 200 miles in it.
Help will be greatly appreciated!

York's, any idea what i can do to get them to realise there is a problem lol? Even when you drive it and it doesn't make an audible crunch noise, you can still feel it, but they're saying they can't.

Yeah i mean it doesn't crunch every time i gear change up, but it it difficult to gear change EVERY time. When i took it to my local VW (who were useless and told me if i wanted it doing under warranty, i have to go to the garage i bought the car from

) but when they took it out for a quick test, they identified there was a problem, i have a print out of this, which i'm going to show the garage where the car is at the minute.
Cheers for the advice

<30K miles is not the 'normal' 'service life of 1st/2nd syncro rings, so VW are going to struggle fighting this one. Stick to your guns, get the gearbox replaced or repaired.
And then when it's fixed and out of warranty, dump the crappy VW oil and refill with Redline MT90. Your syncro rings will thank you for it.

Mines down at VW at the moment, just waiting for a call.
The annoying thing is it wasnt having an issue between 1st and 2nd this morning!!!
Won't be happy if it comes back as ok when Ive had nothing but trouble over the past 10days..

Just got a call from VW and I think im pretty much in the same boat as you Gillen. They said they suspect the second gear syncro ring to need replacing as it crunches under heavy acceleration, however they are not prepared to pay for the box stripping and that I need to go back to where I bought it.
Theyll provide me with an invoice saying they suspect that it needs replacing but thats all they can do.
Ive only had it 10 days and cant afford to pay for it fixing myself!
Any Ideas?
