Regarding those studs - what if I went down to a scrapper and found another old round airbox and ripped the studds out of that. I wouldn't matter if I destroyed the airbox, cause its a disused one anyway.
Would that work? It would save you the hassle of making me some studs up. I would only require the Golf parts, which I need mostly.

the studs that are currently in ur car r the ones we couldn't get out, the golf airbox is fitted on with bolts but to fit the bolts to the polo u need to remove the studs, which is where we had the problem!

right, with the prices of the new parts, i think we may have to go for old parts which i will have to source from breakers yards! (but if n e one wants new ones n doesn't mind paying, then thats fine)
went to halfords today bout some prices and they are as follows:
1 meter of breather pipe = £2.40
2x elbow joints for re directed breather = £3.98 for the pair
green air filter = £44.64
depending on how nice halfords are, i might be able to get some money off, but i really don't no!
n e coments? n e sugestions? is everyone happy with having a green filter or does n e one have n e preferences?

(no real qualms about it harming the hot air induction any more - the pipe now has a couple holes in it, and i saw a polo down the garage where there was nothing left but the metal liner - basically a spring connecting the exhaust manifold to the intake! useless!)

I have just bought my induction kit, and it cost me £16.50 inc postage. Its a Universal one, but it looks the part (K&N Replica) and sounds fantastic. My induction kit will fit, all you need is a reducer which you can easily make yourself out of some old tube or something. In my opinion, this is the best option, but if you want to spend the extra money for a more reputable brand like K&N, Pipercross, Green etc then fair play, but I think they are way too overpriced.

I managed to do mine quite easily, without the need of Dougs magical bolts
. I simply screwed a nut onto the stud, then screwed another nut on and locked it to the first one. Then, gripped both nuts with a socket and it drags the stud out with it. Easy enough to put back aswell if need be.
I've still got to fabricate some pipes so that I can have the induction kit located at the front of the engine bay, next to the vent above the fog lamp recess, but here's what I have up to now:

Went to the scrappy yesterday and picked up a mk3 golf air intake system. On doing so I noticed some key points to consider when doing this induction kit:
1.) On two similar looking mk3 golfs there where 2 different intakes. Im guessing one is the 1.4 model, and the other the 1.6/1.8 CL/GL model. They look like they have a different fitment so choose em carefully!
2.) The three studs on my old single point - I believe you had trouble getting them off Dan? My mate and my bro both think (I will try today!!) that if you put two nuts on them, and begin to undo the bottom one, this will bring the studs out. Haven't tried it as I said, but worth a go.
3.) What do you do regarding the inlet temperature sensor? The red thing inside the airbox? You can connect it straight up to the one on the golf air intake. Will this be ok?
4.) How to convince my mate to give me the K&N airfilter we found at the scrappy yday?? He's already got one and doesn't need it! How do I convince him to hand it over!!!!!

yeh sorry mate! Saw it as soon as I had posted my message! Yeh did it today and it works. Fitted my induction kit, and looks sweet. Need a proper air filter now. Got some old performance one off my mates astra. It sounds ok, but doesn't quite look the part! But yeh this induction kit idea works, now im gonna put some heat proofing/shielding around it!

right, time for an update i feel!
wot u r reading is true, it is possible to get the studs out, however, if u keep putting bolts in and out, u will end up damaging the housing of the injector unit! this is due to the studs being steel and the injector unit being made out of aluminium! also, taking the studs out in the first place may damage the housing n e way.
i didn't want to risk taking em out and damaging the housing for good!
also, doing it with the modified bolts and inlet pipe, it is possible to revert back to the old system in a matter of minutes! it is that easy
as for swopping the sensors over, i ran around with the red one for a while and i was having idelling problems now and then, i have noe got the orange one on the car and it seems absolutly fine, so i would advise changing the red one for the orange one!
as for the finding of the inlet pipes, i am struggling, not as many as i thought there would be! so if you are up the breakers and find some that look like the one on my car, then please let me know!
if u want a brand new parts from VAG-parts.com i am happy to order them as long as the difference is paid! then i can modify them and send them out to you!
using second hand inlet pipe and rubber pipe(the bit that the filter is fitted to) i believe we are looking at a grand total of £80 +p&p thats for everything you will need to fit the kit including filter, breather pipe extension and elbows and labour!
if for example, u want to choose your own filter, or, u already have some sutable breather pipe, i will send out the bits u need and deduct that from the price.
now the fun part, who is still interested?
if you are still interested in the kit or some parts for it, please PM me with exactly wot u are after (e.g. the whole thing or just the modified bolts etc.), and any questions u may have about n e thing!
i hope thats made things a bit easier for u all to understand
atm i have been donated by a local veedub breakers, a different inlet part, this has the breather pipe connection in the correct place so u won't need to have all the buy pass of the breather! it also came with the orange sensor! as soon as i can, i will get some pics taken of both of them and we shall go from there
