But I am definitely going to get that armrest pad.

Did you get it from here:

Yes mate, thats the one 8)

You have to pull the old one off, it's stapled to a plastic lip round the inner edge when you've taken it all apart. I got the staples out with needle-nose pliers, then you have to stretch the leather one into place, taking care to get the stitch lines as straight as possible then I used a heavy duty manual stapler with 5mm staples in.

I found the quicker you pulled the trigger while pushing down hard the higher the chances of them firing into the plastic, don't use anything bigger than 5mm staples as if fired at slightly wrong angle they WILL come through the other side and poke through or pierce the leather.

Good luck

I had a gti polo when they pretty much came out a brand new 11 plate, I done 19,000 in the car, this is after new engine at 4000 miles and new rings at 8000, and what felt light hundreds of oil top ups haha! So VW agreed to change my car so now I have a 2013 gti with the polished monza fronts etc which I have done 1000 miles in now and the oil light came on at 800... I know its running in but my old mans gtd his oil light never came on once from new and still hasnt after 15,000! So im dishearted and now thinking of getting rid, found a beautiful white audi S3 which im keen on now so ive lost all faith with vw!

Car looks awesome mate :) I was going to get the xxr527's in chrome black, but stockists all over where freshly out, so ended up going down the Rota Grid route. Love the little OEM+ mods, very nice touches. Would love to see / hear more info on the induction kit you've got mate. Looking into one myself now, so always good to get a bit off feedback from others :D Cheers Nathan

:( *Sings Wretch 32 - Don't Go hahaha

But in all fairness I understand where you're coming from, I've had so called oil burners since the 90's and only had to top up the oil in my 9N SDI and that was after 64,000 miles! :O S3's are awesome, they map easily to 300+ without anything major doing to them... Cousin has one! :D

Thanks Nathan, glad you like the subtle mods. I like stuff like that as it takes a real VW nut to spot them, which is always satisfying when someone does notice them.

I wanted the chrome black ones too, but yeah like you say, no one has them and no one seems able to get a set either. Quite liked the bronze versions too but again I can't get any of the 8.25J x 17" ET35 fitment I want on mine.

Will do some pics of my intake soon, it's pretty decent but you don't hear much from in the cabin, best of all it was cheap as I bought a Pipercross Venom universal 100mm inlet induction kit and then bought some silicone hose from ASH (autosiliconehoses.com) to connect it all up. Just re-spraying my engine cover in Candy White with some matching red & white decals on the 'TSI' lettering so when that's done I'll get the bay detailed and some pics up so keep an eye out

Might get myself an ITG intake soon though, so may well sell the Pipercross on here, or give it my brother for his Golf Mk4 GTi.

Cheers, Ben

Thats a shame that you seem to have trouble with 2 GTi's, not good is it! Mine seems ok on the oil issue but I don't really use it much during the week as I have a van for work so the Polo is a weekend / evening toy luckily.

I've owned a fair few VW's and Audi's and I guess I've been lucky enough to have no problems with any of them except the TT Mk2 which has an awful problem with the leather stretching in a very ugly way on the seats. That was more a design flaw than anything but still it narked me a lot on a car that cost me £33k at the time, as Audi didn't care much about it at all. Seems whichever marque you go to, there will always be models that have problems, I had a BMW 1 Series that had a few gremlins that bugged me, but it seems these days manufacturers expect you to be able to live with these flaws?

Will be a shame if you decide to sell up, but I can't fault you if you got for an S3, they are excellent cars and very well built the few I have been lucky enough to sit in. I'm almost tempted to go for a TT Mk2 again myself, as the 3.2 S-Tronic's are down to a really cheap price, and they're better to tax than the manual Golf Mk5 R32 I had, and I absolutely LOVE that 3.2 V6 exhaust note, heaven!

My ideal VAG car if I had the money? I'd prob be radical and buy a Golf Mk6 R 3 door, and rip the engine out and replace it with the above 3.2 V6, ha

Yer I know abit of a pain but I think its only used it due to running in! I love the car dont get me wrong its mental just lost faith tbh and want something abit bigger. I test drove a golf R last week crazy machine haha nevee drove the mk5 R32 but they sound sweet but the mk4 is the best I think! I knew some boy who had a twin turbo 550bhp one that was nuts!!

I used t-tap connectors yeah, much easier, I usually like to solder everything to make it look OEM but it's a bit tight up there really. Bet you're like me then, wrapping all your wiring in Tesla black fabric tape? ha.

OEM + is the way to be, same myself, generally don't like too much aftermarket stuff when it comes to styling and interiors. Get the light switch, window and mirror switches from VW, much cheaper! I have an account with TPS (VW) and get a little discount, I can get you a price if you let me know what you're interested in via PM?

As for the mirror switch, I bought the chrome switch from VW, with the intention of cutting off the knob and somehow bonding it to my existing Polo mirror switch as the surrounding part is a different shape to the Golf Mk5 / Mk6 one I bought. Actually found the knob pulls off both the Polo one and the Golf one and they're a direct swap! Bit hard to pull it free but it does work, just a useful tip!

Haha yes I even wrapped that stuff around the LED number plate light wiring as they were rattling a little whilst driving... Everything must be neat and Germanic ha. Interesting fact on the wing mirror switch, may try and find a cheap Golf 6 one on eBay if that's the case, mdont know why VW left that black as I think it kind of makes the interior feel like its lacking something. Thanks for for the heads up on parts buddy... Will get a PM sent shortly! :)
Looks interesting. How much it will cost you

Hi Joe

You have to pull down the cupholder on the arm-rest, there is a 'torx' screw between the cupholder bit that folds down and the actual cupholder body. You may need a torch to see it properly, once this is removed you can then pull the cupholder towards the back of the car.

You then need to undo 1 Torx screw in the centre of the arm-rest base, clearly visible with the cupholder removed. You can then remove the whole arm-rest.

As for removing the lid, I can't remember off the top of my head, but with it removed from the car I think it's pretty straight forward.

PM me if you're having trouble and I'll remove my arm-rest again if I have time and see if I can figure it out again / take pics to show you.

Ben

No worries mate, glad you sorted it! How did you fix the leather cover on? Staples like I said or another way?
