But the GTI engine is much more fragile than the BlueGT engine because of the Turbo, Supercharger and timingchain combo.
That is another issue. Touch wood mine has behaved impeccably- I just believe in 'if you take care of your car it'll take care of you'! :D

That' sounds like good words to live by. :)

One of the reasons why I choose the BlueGT over the GTI is that I know a few mechanics at two different VW dealers here in Denmark.

And the number of engines they have changed because of problems with the that chain would blow your mind... It's not just the 1,4 TSI from the GTI. But throughout the whole range of engines which uses chains instead of timingbelts.

Not to mention the problems there still is with the DSG7 gearbox...

So I couldn't get my self to take that gamble I felt it was to buy a VW with that engine and gearbox. So I bought a BlueGT with a manual gearbox.

Yes - I also believe also in that old adage, 'if you look after the car, the car will look after you'.

I have a GTI, it has had a replacement engine despite looking after it very carefully, but that was only after the famed oil consumption issues (separate thread). I can quite regularly get 50+ mpg showing as an average, but that is normally if you are going steady speed < 60mph in 7th. The most I have seen is an astonishing 62mpg average, but that was after a period of general slight downhill and probably tailwind. By the time I got home on that particular journey, the average was still showing 56 mpg from memory.

I do look after the engine, I never put the car in sport mode and it rarely sees north of 4000rpm, but it still flies.

I'm a 24 year old male and the insurance for the blue GT is only £270 a year for me! That's unherd of! I was quoted £1700 a year for a type r civic and £850 a year for a polo gti my old tdi golf cost me £650 a year. No road tax for first year with blue GT then only £20 a year there after it's not just the fuel that saves you cash with this car take it all into account bro.
