As suspected, the resistor has failed. I'm not sure if they are replaceable, but a new fan will sort it.

Just gone for a full new fan, it was £35 or so and a lot less faffing.
Will report back if this sorts it next week, either way thanks for all the help! Very appreciated

Sorry never replied to this, it did fix the problem of the fan not running.
