Wow that was lucky.

Very similar to mine one day, I started it up and it didn't sound right, but it was an emergency as my bro had got his hand stuck (long story ha) and off I went. My engine light was on and sounding really loud. After getting it home I opened the bonnet and took the cover off and one large piece of tensioner fell out along with millions of small pieces! Very very lucky!

Car is looking good mate! :)

Thanks dude, much appreciated. That does sound like a really close call, but i guess that is why they say to do the belt every 40,000. I think i am going to do mine a bit more often than they say as i am quite worried that it will fail

Other News:

I am currently in Holland visiting my grandparents and tomorrow i am heading to the Nurburgring to take a look. Sadly i do not have the polo with me but i will be coming back in september time to give it a lap. Just going to see the museum etc whilst i am close. I am in mums golf 1.9 TDI but she wont let me take it round :(

Out of interest, did you hoist the engine or just support it underneath?

Just supported it underneath with some axel stand/stool thing we have. Then used the ramp a lil bit
