To my understanding, anyone with the MIB 2 media system can get it enabled, however I will clarify that on Tuesday and update.
How do I know if my unit is the MIB 1 or 2? A quick google search later and it seems like the MIB 2 unit has a SD slot on the front, mine doesn't.
My car is from May 2015

I honestly couldn't tell you how to find out, my dealer told me that it was a MIB ii despite it not having a SD card slot like you say. I also don't know when they started building them with MIB ii's either. It would need to be clarified by your local dealer to check for sure whether it would be compatible before install. Sorry I can't help any further on that.

I've managed to get my dealer to take it back to their body shop and have it machine polished. But they ain't going to be re-applying lifeshine without my say so. So I can get a refund if so.

Just been to see about whether it's worth getting a service plan for mine (10 months old and 8000 miles) and apparently it's not as I'm on the long-life service regime.
However, I did check about CarPlay while I was there and for my May 2015 GTI (ordered March 2015) I can retrofit Car Play for £213.40. It's a simple code plus dealer upgrade (so basically a 3-minute rip-off) but is available if important to you. I'm going to have a think about it as I've got lots of other things to spend £213 on I'd want first...

What sort of fuel economy are people getting?
I can only seem to get about 36 - 38 mpg. Weird as I easily got 42 - 44 in my Mountune ST before. I'm hoping the economy improves once I've done more miles in it. Only done 500ish so far.

You need to get a few more miles on it before it achieves better mpg, that's still pretty good though considering its power. The engine will loosen up over time and give you better mpg.

I'm saying goodbye to my R-line 1.2TSI tomorrow and saying hello to my GTI. Can't wait. My R-line has been a fantastic car, loved it and kept good pace against some bigger capacity cars so I can't imagine what a GTI is going to be like.

Yeah that's kinda pricey but I think it's a tangible upgrade on the media system.
Of course only worth it to people who own Apple products.
But if the Satnav is around 600€ It's almost more cost effective to just get a nice new iPhone 6 and Apple CarPlay when you're speccing your GTI.
I'm considering it, still waiting on an answer from my dealer.
I'm also thinking about getting rid of the spare wheel, replacing it with a puncture kit, and getting the Plug&play subwoofer. I would get better sound and a more spacious boot.

Had a lucky one tonight, started washing an noticed a screw in tyre, wizzed straight up to my local tyre centre and chap pulled it out, luckily it had gone in more or less horizontal so hadn't punctured. Came home an finished washing very relieved lol

How many miles until your first service then? I've had mine for just under 6 months and 9600 miles and it's going in for its first service tomorrow
