@StuartFacer; I think the time lapse from stage 6 to stage 7 will largely depend on availability of transporter lorries, and delivery locations of cars.

If your car was unfortunate not to get a space on a transporter shortly after it arrived at Grimsby, then it’s likely it won’t be delivered to your dealer until there are sufficient cars to fill a transporter with dealer destinations in or around the Barnsley area. Whether or not that would mean a two week delay or whether the dealer is just trying to manage expectations, I wouldn’t like to speculate. However, I have learned through the years that car salespeople can quite often be economic with the truth!

My Polo GTI+ arrived in Grimsby on 24/07/20 I elected to hold delivery until September for the 70 plate today 02/09/20 I received my stage 6 sms stating it had arrived in the uk, Haysledons, Doncaster are awaiting its arrival & Said they would turn it around quickly for delivery! I was hoping this week my 9 month wait would finally be over but I’m not holding my breath, this will be my last brand new VW as the whole thing has been a disappointment, I just hope the car is worth it😩

I’m on my forth VW and the time from order to delivery has ranged from 3 months (best) to 8 months (worst).

Knowing how long prospective VW buyers can wait for a factory order, with the last two cars I’ve bought, I started the ordering / buying process around six months before I actually intended changing my car, in anticipation it would turn up roughly when I wanted it. However, many first time VW buyers may not be aware of the long lead times, which can understandably lead to frustration when they’re faced with a long wait.

Some of the unprecedented events around the world that’ve been happening this year will have impacted lead times and will have been outside VW’s control. Having said that, VW’s system (if there actually is a system!) from the time of order to delivery of cars to customers does seem to be very protracted and inefficient, especially when compared to some of their competitors. It does mean there needs to some careful planning by customers whose existing cars are leased or PCP’d to minimise the risk of being left car-less if their existing car needs to be returned before the new one turns up!

Once you’ve got your car, hopefully you can put the long wait behind you and get on with enjoying it

After over 8 months waiting I finally picked my polo up this morning, couldn't be happier!

Instructed the dealer to not touch the car and leave the wrap on which they duly obliged

Got back and stripped the wheels off and gave them a clean ready for Pilot sport 4 tyre change tomorrow

Looks lovely. Really pleased for you.

My polo has been in Emden 2 and a half weeks so far. Still waiting to get to Grimsby. The only annoying thing is that I know of two people whose scars arrived at Emdon for Grimsby and have already arrived in the UK. I got my 5b before them as well.

It feels like a bit of a lottery.

To be fair this is my second polo, first an 18 reg so I know I’ll be happy. Just painful waiting.....

Got my email from VW this morning at 8.05 saying status updated to ‘car is in final stages of its journey to the UK’
The website tracker has changed to ‘near the UK’

I’ve not had a text but assume this is my 5C?

I’ve emailed the dealer to confirm. She’s pretty good so usually comes back a few hours later.

Strange thing is I’m a Grimsby destination and nothing is currently on route there or at Emdon to go there. Until dealer confirms it’s possible it’s on the City of Rotterdam, due into Tyne this afternoon. This ship has in the past done an Emdon - Tyne - Grimsby then back to Emdon.

Yeah that'll be 5c, have you had a look at ships that have already departed Grimsby? I got my 5c after Rotterdam left Grimsby and then status 6 the day after that

Interesting point. It could have arrived on the Weser Highway a couple of days ago. Either way it’s closer.

I have the 6 now to say at Grimsby but nothing further yet, lady at Hayselden Barnsley has promised a quick turnaround when it arrives but as yet mine is still stuck in Grimsby.
Do the local dealerships have any knowledge of when transporters are scheduled or is it just a lottery for them too.
Oh well we keep waiting don’t we.

Was it the handover specialist you spoke to or the sales rep? I spoke to the handover lady last week and she said they weren’t told when a vehicle is due to arrive, they turn up ‘when they turn up’ I was waiting less than a week for it to get from Grimsby to Barnsley.

Hi Stuart, hope you’ve finally got your car now 😂. What spec did you go for? I’ve seen a 70 plate GTI on my way to work the past few days, I live in Doncaster and work in Barnsley and just remember someone in here was getting a car from Barnsley so wondered if it was you??

Who else currently has their car in transit from the factory? If so what sort of time is it taking to get from SA to Emden at the moment?

Port congestion, the world over, is at levels I've never seen in my close to 40 years in the shipping business.
Covid, worsening weather etc.
Delays delays delays.
