coloum speakers broken
dials on heater have gone out
Fixing the illumination on the heater box is a nice easy job. You'll need a replacement 12V 5watt push-in bulb from Halfords...all of about a quid.
SOMETHING VOLKSWAGEN DON"T TELL US....the fan speed knob pulls off.
Yes....
It requires a fair old tug BUT it does come off...and underneath it lurks the bulb that lights the heater controls. So you can see the bulb type you need to get from Halfords!
TOP TIP: its a fiddly little rascal to remove and refit. If like me you havent got elf-like fingers, its annoying. So, either use a pair of tweezers or snipe-nose pliers, or a short length of washer hose to extract and fit the bulb.
There - this public service was taken from "the book VW should've put in with the car" LOL...its called the Haynes manual!!

the heater dials illumination went out on my polo 6n2 as well as my mates! it bugged the hell outta me so set about takin the damn thing out and dismantling it completely!?

which is when i came across the tiny lil bugger that was the cause, one mingy lil bulb! i thought best place to go for it was electrical component stores (ie. maplin) they'd never seen the thing in their life!!

after conceding defeat to the bulb and re-assembling the dials...now u tell me the bulbs available at halfords for a quid!!

You have to re-adapt the throttle body after cleaning. Otherwise the check engine light will come on occasionally when driving.
Use VAG.com and switch to basic settings. After which it drives like new.

well since ive had her:
-both front break pads went
-rear abs sensors broke and replaced
-engine sounds like a funkin diesel
-and yeah, "interior door handles are peeling!"
... all in the span of the year ive had her, all VW sorted and thus compromised any modifications that i should have done by now, sigh! and they say VW's are reliable.

My probs (GTi)
- gearbox seal
- rear wheel bearing (done under warrenty)
- oil pressure sensor (seems to be ok now)
- rear wiper tube popped off (fault on almost every mk5?)
- rear brake binding (done under warrenty)
- handles peeling (inc boot handle)
I also find the clutch is crap and its got dodgy cambelt tensioners. When it comes to serious issues like cambelt tensioners failing it dissapoints me. Don't expect that from VW.

Has anyone here had a problem with a light clicking noise, after you turn the car off? it seems to be coming somewhere near the engine.. or the wheels have no idea going to take it to garage on tuesday to find out

Yeh that happens on mine. ive heard its just the engine cooling down...? Not too sure though, let me know when you've taken it to find out!
P.S - I have had problems with handbrake coming too far up however i got the handbrake drums cleaned and it sorted it. Also ive had random lights coming on (ABS etc) but then going off when i next start the car....?!

yup its just the engine compacting as it cools down, completely normal so don't worry

as it heats up the engine (i believe its the manifold) expands.
