What a difference that has made... the clutch is so much lighter and the gearbox oil has made gear changes so much smoother. I also got the coolant temperature sensor changed while It was in just to get rid of that annoying fault. The car is running well....
...HOWEVER, i STILL have a weird grinding noise coming from the gearbox area. It can only be heard from inside the car. I thought the change of oil would fix that but the noise still remains. It's not really affecting anything at the minute, it's just a noise and it can be heard most under acceleration and deceleration. Goes away whenever I dip the clutch. Any ideas?
Could be the exhaust bracket mate, I had the exact same problem for months and it just turned out to be a loose bracket right by the CAT. Mine just needed welding but sometimes they do need to be replaced.
Mine was more noticeable in 1st and 2nd both accelerating and decelerating, couldnt really hear it in 3rd or 4th due to the speed.

Hmmm could be. I kind of thought if it was a big issue my mechanic would have mentioned it when he took it for a test drive after fitting the new clutch so it may just be something simple like that.
It's not that terrible anyway. You can't hear it when the radio is on so it's not really that loud.
Cheers for the input Ben

Sure, Worst case scenario is a gearbox refurb... and then that'll be one less thing on the list to worry about
Yeah that's cool Ben, I'll PM you later this evening sure!

Hi all!
Last couple of weeks have been spent doing some wee things with the car really... nothing major, just subtle little changes.
This is what my old centre caps looked like...
..So to accompany my wheel refurb I thought it'd be best to get some new centre caps to tidy them up a bit. After getting in contact with Ben (6n2 GTI 00) these arrived in the post just the other day... once again, cheers Ben
The wheels could do with a good clean and a couple of coats of sealant methinks!
I also got myself a couple of other things.

Rear aero wiper FTW!
Excuse the messy tailgate... I was trying to align the washer jet and had tested it out before I took the pic. Unfortunately, it's still shooting water at the spoiler rather than the rear window.
Let me know what you think

Nice Update Nigel
I'm glad your happy with the centre caps, they make a massive improvement on the wheels.
Good tip to keep your new one's in good condition is to apply some clear vinyl/film to them, it seals the cap and adds that extra bit of protection. I am going to get some for mine too because like the Split rims they dont last long without care and attention.

This Stuff should do the job nicely
Are you keeping the BBS rims on all winter or are you going to get yourself a set of winter wheels?
Ben,

Cheers for the input guys
@Ben - Yep probably keeping the wheels on over winter. Can't afford winter wheels unfortunately. Some wheel sealant and perhaps some of that film would be a good investment
@Godderz - For sure! Hope to get a few more wee things sometime soon. 9n3 Handbrake cover looks nice

Yeah wheel sealant would also be a sound investment for the winter months.
Its just a case of keeping on top of them, particularly those outer rims. Try to clean them once or twice a week minium and you should be fine

@Ben - Wheel sealant is on the way
@Emma - Thank you

Now that I've got a newer style GTI badge on display i'm in 2 minds of whether or not I should go for badges like yours, or at least the all silver GTI badges in that font.
Haven't had a chance to look in to the leaky screenwash yet HOWEVER, Having thought about it a bit... with the horns being on the passenger side and the screenwash, I get the feeling my leaky screenwash is the reason i have a wimpy sounding horn. Hopefully I can get all of that sorted at once some stage soon

So I went ahead and bought the aerial... Brilliant size! I always thought the stubby one I had looked a bit small and I was never really happy with the reception on it. I'm really glad I bought it

I'm pretty sure my reception is better than the standard aerial & wIth a booster it'd be perfect. A mod well recommended!
Also whilst fitting the aerial I noticed the lacquer is starting to peel around the aerial base (still to be replaced)... will hopefully get that sorted next year when I'm getting some other things sorted.
