Ordered my Polo GTI end of November and it was available for delivery on the 15th May, although I didn't take it until the end of the month, so 5-6 months to the UK seems to be the rate for new build, only done 80 miles in it so far - but so far so good :D

lucky to get yours so quick. By any chance, it is a stock build with few options? As I ordered my GTI+ tail end of September and it is still a few weeks away, putting the lead time at almost 9 full months for me.

Yes you're probably right, the only options were wheels and paint - on a contract hire so haven't loaded it this time!

Ordered mid March 2019, expected delivery week 28, which is right around the corner now :D I think I hit a low point on delivery times, as it was 10months a week before my order and again a few weeks after I placed my order.

It is a “custom” order, as I wasn’t in any sort of rush either, my current lease is still due for another 8 months  I like changing cars often.

I ordered the R-Line Polo beginning of May and was told there was a 20 week wait...

But now I've been told that because of the model changing over to 2020, I won't receive a build date till after August, and that my 20 week wait will start from then, but i'm on a waiting list so I may not get my build date for ages!! :( :( :(

I ordered my GTI + 13/05/19. received stage 2 ( with factory ) notification 03/06/19. today (12/06/19) stage 3 build week 32 . Aug 5th !!
This is much better than expected , it would appear that production speed in South Africa has been turned up to 11 !!!!

That's great! - Really quick turnaround!

Though I really don't understand their order in making cars, some people seem to have been waiting ages, and others seem to get theirs built quite quickly.

You will have to contact your dealer to get that information.

Just spoke to the dealer, locked in to same week :) Initial estimate was 36 when I ordered in April. Dealer says slim chance it will be here (North West UK) end of Sept but still more likely to be Oct. See how it goes.

I hope you test drove a Cooper first. The awful offset of the pedals crippled my left knee after a 30 min test drive.

BMW group are quick to build cars - no order backlog it seems.

Are there any Polo models that don't have long lead times, or that can even be delivered from stock?

I'm thinking of replacing my ageing 3-door Fiesta with a new Polo this year, because I now need to carry multiple passengers often. All I really want is an SE 1.0 TSI 95PS Manual. I'm not bothered much about the colour, although I'd prefer not to pay extra for paint. I might be prepared to pay for a SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS Manual if that has short delivery times. I want Front Assist and a spare wheel, but I believe those are standard on all models.

A quick search on Autotrader for VW Polo with up to 100 Miles on the clock came up with 290 available cars.
