So I've been watching the boat Glovis Sunrise with my car on it like a hawk as it's been making its steady way round the west coat of Africa, only to see that its been stationary outside Guinea for 4 days now! So infuriating as it has otherwise been making great progress. Would love to know whats going on!

Morning, my other halfs Polo arrived in Emden on the 7th April and has obviously been stuck there for 2 months so hoping it gets on a ship soon to the UK.

Why do the Polo's go to Germany first?

At a guess, I'd say that it's likely they do some kind of post manufacture checks to say they were (partially) manufactured in the EU to dodge EU importation tax (10% currently?). All VAG cars heading to the UK seem to come via Emden.

Yeah I've heard they do a "quality check" in Emden, what that entails I have no idea

I also think it's shipping economies, I would imagine that some of the cars from SA don't go to the UK, so if they unload those then a partially empty ship would have to go the UK, and then make multiple dropoffs at our various ports. By unloading everything at Emden they are then adding in the SA polos into the main bulk of cars coming from the continent and can fill up each boat that goes to Grimsby, Sheerness etc

Thanks for the info. I'll let you know once it is loaded onto a vessel to the UK.

FYI the vehicle was ordered 29th December.

I'd like to say build week 11? Week Commencing 8th March.

I recall it loaded onto the Glovis Solomon at some point week commencing 15th March.

Christ! One week difference in build and that's all it took to get yours out in time

Tracked the boat all the way to Emden where it arrived yesterday, dealers just told me its another 4-5 weeks until handover, Christ!

Asked him what he wants to do about the 3yr service that's due on the 7th July. When i ordered back in December i did it with the full intention of avoiding that cost

There's always some leeway on the service timing (+/- 1 month or 1000 miles), but VW have opened that out to 6 months because of COVID-19. They'll almost certainly tell you to leave it.

Yeah I've just heard back from them, not bothered in the the slightest which is a relief.
