At a guess, I'd say that it's likely they do some kind of post manufacture checks to say they were (partially) manufactured in the EU to dodge EU importation tax (10% currently?). All VAG cars heading to the UK seem to come via Emden.scott.mccormack wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 12:17 pm Morning, my other halfs Polo arrived in Emden on the 7th April and has obviously been stuck there for 2 months so hoping it gets on a ship soon to the UK.
Why do the Polo's go to Germany first?
Yeah I've heard they do a "quality check" in Emden, what that entails I have no ideamonkeyhanger wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 1:24 pmAt a guess, I'd say that it's likely they do some kind of post manufacture checks to say they were (partially) manufactured in the EU to dodge EU importation tax (10% currently?). Now i'm jealous! What was your build week? I ordered mine on the 21st Dec and its not even in emden yetscott.mccormack wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:11 pm Thanks for the info. I'll let you know once it is loaded onto a vessel to the UK.
FYI the vehicle was ordered 29th December.
Christ! One week difference in build and that's all it took to get yours out in timescott.mccormack wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 4:46 pm I'd like to say build week 11? Week Commencing 8th March.
I recall it loaded onto the Glovis Solomon at some point week commencing 15th March.
There's always some leeway on the service timing (+/- 1 month or 1000 miles), but VW have opened that out to 6 months because of COVID-19. They'll almost certainly tell you to leave it.PhilArnold wrote: Fri Jun 19, 2020 12:05 pm Tracked the boat all the way to Emden where it arrived yesterday, dealers just told me its another 4-5 weeks until handover, Christ!
Asked him what he wants to do about the 3yr service that's due on the 7th July. When i ordered back in December i did it with the full intention of avoiding that cost
Yeah I've just heard back from them, not bothered in the the slightest which is a relief.monkeyhanger wrote: Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:37 pmThere's always some leeway on the service timing (+/- 1 month or 1000 miles), but VW have opened that out to 6 months because of COVID-19.
