Just to add, at that rolling road day my car was not running right. It was heavily overfuelling. Not an ideal comparison, gareth. If your not tuning your engine then a NZ/G40 manifold should get you more torque. I think your top end would tail off sooner. If you can't get grip get new tcas, the rubbers are probably fubard.
You may well get more torque at lower revs but when is a GT at such revs? A GT is designed to breath better at higher revs which is where you get pretty much the only improvements over a std 1.3 carb. The torque may suffer at lower revs as a consequence but then they're shorter geared to compensate so you spend more time at higher revs where it's designed to work best. However, I do like the sound of it on a £F with an 8P.

ayz is the same as 8p but with a higher final drive ratio, so all gears are slightly shorter.
I dont think many ppl have a standard GT with the 8P box. Dan certainly hasnt (but he is after a G40 one on his top secret project) Theres just me with the 8P on the 1.4. Steve (86c) has an 8P on his tuned NZ and he rates it highly as well. but it is all in a mk1 which weighs alot less than my car id imagine.

Well I don't own a GT now but I recently built up Liz (Bluegirls) MK2 GT useing my old engine, and that was RR with 99bhp with the following mods.
My own Custom Chip
278 schrck cam (not 100% sure on duration)
Ashley 4 Branch (blowing)
Doms old stock GT exhaust system
G40 inlet manifold with slightly restreicted no:1 inlet due to Huge Servo and major manifod choppage.
Ecotek valve
K&N panel filter+ drilled airbox
slightly flowed air flow meter
Modified Dizzy mounting to give more ignition advance due to the cam needeing a vernier pulley.
This thing goes like stink, I can't remember torque figures. But I really need to suss out the reve limit position as it to low when driving it as 4000rpm to the limiter just wizzes past.
I fast road cam will really bring the GT to life and if setup resembly will give gains of about 10bhp with a ported head and a vernier I can see that that car making at least 110bhp.

It never idled well (my cab with lairier cam has no probs) but 2k rpm was like a switch and it struggled for grip in 2nd (no, the suspension wasn't knackered!) Thing is, it never seemed to have any top-end. Dizzy was wound round as far as it'd go or it was lifeless. Got to say I was rather disenchanted though it made 85bhp/85 lb/ft with the head gasket blowing two cylinders. Would've been nice to try it with a std cam to see if that was the prob as it never went as well as it should have. Hell, my hatch with just decat/chip/K&N made more bhp!

what of a de-wedged / derestricted G40 manifold then? would that still retain the deep down torque whilst being more "open" at the top end?
thought having the multi-point electronic fuel injection was supposed to cure a lot of those dead-ending problems anyway?
after all even a 1-litre's probably putting out more than 35lbft at 2k (it's lovely to truck along at 30-40 in top and never think of changing down)...... though it's entirely true that the GT should never need to be that low apart from in 1st for a rolling or bodged start, or idling along in traffic in any gear
(peak at 5900-6000 goes down to ~3600 as a minimum, for 1st to 2nd)
