Sweet progress jarno, you should make up a DIY guide on how to do this!
Has all the skin on your knuckles gone yet?

Nope, but bit of my nails with my teeth, just out of frustration of sitting behind my pc on the job, not being able to get to my mk4 and work on it
And if I made a DIY, I would ask a fellow-forum-member to help me out, dubbprince, he was so kindly to help me out with lots of info and pics of his own mk5 dash into mk4 project. Already warned me for some upcoming issues, to have to give him credit for that! Cheers Sanjay!
Only difference is, he also put in the GTI engine+loom+ecu+fusebox etc., which stopped him from having trouble of getting by the CAN-bus problem, I still have to figure that out, since I won't be getting a GTI loom+ecu etc.

I'm thinking of just changing the center console, but seeing a guide of how much work is involved to take the hole dash out would be interesting!

Then don't start on it

it's taking me two whole evenings so far, and getting the tacho to work will require me to fuss about with either 2 6N2 type tacho's, or working on my loom/ECU, not an easy task at hand, but I'll try to keep up-dating here on every nights work, so everybody can get a good view into the works required

This really isn't the type of mod that a diy guide will be that much good for, it really is a case of just getting down to it! It will take a lot more than a few hours, because it certainly isn't plug and play as you think!

I like mine, it's dark grey. I don't like the light grey ones but don't know if that's what you're referring to.

As I said before, my 6N dash is dark grey. Pretty sure there are black ones out there too.
