Hope you refused to pay for the courtesy car George. Good luck when you take your car in, I would imagine it will be the standard 1000km (625 mile) test, then you will have to take it back for the oil to be measured again.

More news on mine... Previous owner has confirmed he rejected the car for oil consumption issues

The dealer then sold the car onto me without sorting the consumption issues first, I was not aware of this of any issues when I purchased the car

I believe under the Sales of Goods act information like this must be disclosed to the potential buyer, or the contract is null and void

Shame on them, tainted my opinion of VW and their dealers

That's horrendous!

Definitely a money back scenario there.

its bad but you have no evidence to say they did noting & sold the car on they did actually attempt to solve it while you owned it
where does the sales of goods act say they must provide information about previous issues i don't think any dealer is going to tell you it was a rejected car or it was driven though a brick wall by the valeter it wouldn't happen

Previous owner quoted the manager saying it needed piston rings and the incorrect ones were fitted from factory, according to VW event history which I got from another dealer over the weekend states this never happened until I took the car in to get the piston rings replaced

Plus I directly asked the salesman why it was for sale when I bought it and he blatantly lied to me which the previous owner can verify

The Sales of Goods Act has a section called disclosure, a serious engine defect such as this must be brought to the buyers attention or the contract could be null and void

UNBELIVABLE...!!!

The sale of goods act covers you on the fit for purpose side anyway.
That the previous owner rejected it as well only means a judge would have yet another reason to rule in your favour if it went that far.
From experience i think it would take 5 minutes for a decision to be made in your favour. Hopefully it wont come to that. Its just a shame VW don't step up to the plate and sort these issues out quicly and painlessly. Its a mystery why they don't ... In the grand scheme of things with the profit they make its not going to cripple them and all this negative press certainly isnt doing them any favours?

Yep, refused completely. I've never had to pay before, I'm certainly not paying now!

Official used VWs are supposed to go through a thorough check before resale. You can use that as leverage too.

I thought this too, all it had was an oil pressure sensor which relates to something the last owner said, but that wouldn't solve consumption

I would be contacting VW head office in Germany, simple as that. Seems like its not only Australian Vw dealerships that screw customers with lies.

Good idea - if you do contact them might also be worth mentioning they are telling customers with cars on order there are no problems in the UK with oil consumption. Wonder if VW HQ advocate such behaviour?

Good idea, I'll look into that, don't think fiance are too happy at the moment, offering a contract on a substandard car

My build date just shot forward to delivery last week of this month (mid July originally)
Will mine have the alleged new engine I wonder? They dont want to tell me
If delivered in 3 weeks I imagine must be on the line pretty soon??

In Italy also customers service tells that there are no evident problems about oil consumption...!
They will never admit that...
