Yes - brilliant write up blacktracker, very interesting read. I liked your comment that the GTI is a car that's lets you have your cake and eat it.

Nice write up blacktracker. Going to go look for ST's today, shouldn't be too hard, they're everywhere.

Great write up, very much appreciated.
Confirmed build week today as week 25 with delivery probably around 4 weeks after that, ordered on the 4th of April to give an idea of wait time.
Spec:
Metallic black
Sports Pack
Light and Sight Pack
Winter Pack
Mirrorlink
Electronic Climate
Was speaking to one of the guys in the garage, he's had the demo car for a couple months now and is due to go back to a Golf soon but really doesn't want to which is quite interesting.

That's bad! I'd be making noises. Have you been in touch with vw customer services, who may have more info ?

Yes - that is ridiculous, something has gone wrong 'in the system'. That is well over 3 months since order and still no build date, not right, need to escalate Andy.

I contracted customer services few weeks ago, they just told me to ask dealer, he was saying it's no problem an unconfirmed build week of 24-25

Just see it as the box isn't really designed for the engine.
I hadn't considered that. If that is the case, i'll be adding it to my options, if it's not too late!
I"ve contacted VW, and my dealer so will report back on what they say.
Had a response direct from VW. Essentially what the sport button does (regarding the engine) is changes when maximum torque is available.
Maximum torque is available at different points depending on the DSG or Manual. This button does not increase torque for the DSG.
Both the Manual and DSG's maximum torque is set at a certain point in the revs range, when the sport button is
on maximum torque is available lower in the rev range.
As I'm getting a DSG and it's down on torque compare are to the manual, having it available lower down the rev range swayed me to pay the extra to get it. The stiffer suspension, 'sportier' electromechanical steering and additional 'engine/exhaust' noise is a bonus.
Estimated delivery date, 1st week in Sept! A solid 4 month wait from when i placed my order...
