Yes thats the ECU
Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours, then clear the fault and see if it comes back

Aha sorry for my stupidity! Hmm I will do that as the car isnt being used as it has no gearbox XD But im not sure it will work as its been acting funny aswell, like the tickover sometimes decides to rev on its own accort a little bit and the engine has cut out a few times when i went to reverse :/
How much is a new ECU?

It may need reprogramming to work correctly.
Im pretty sure itll be fine as it is. Also, unplug it from its connection under the scuttle panel (where the wiper motor is) when the battery is off and check the terminals are clean

I'd never pay that... I pay £475 now for a 1.4 6n2 SE but I'm 23. A GTI is believe it or not cheaper to insure for me that my 1.4...... Tempting, very tempting.

I havent cleared the fault yet because I still don't have my gearbox back in, I've unplugged the battery and I'll delete the fault when the car is moving again

hope it decides to work, I dot want to buy a new ecu...
Surly there is something else I can do? Get it remapped or recondition it?

They sell the start button kits on ebay, they should come with wiring instructions i would have thought, you just need to be confident in cutting into the starting wiring.

It wasn't too bad actually, but like Neil said, you have to be a bit confident about what you are doing, I was also lucky because someone told me what wires did what so I knew which ones to use,
I'll try and find the info on that later when I get home,
