Is the arrival of the Grand Orion at any UK ports relevant for you or any of us with a BW23 car? It's got to go to Gernany (Emden to go to Wolfsburg?) first to drop the cars off for final Quality checks and then get from Germany to the UK (presumably to Tyne, Grimsby or Sheerness, the usual VW served UK ports).

Yep my bw 23 car is definitely on it and according to the ships schedule after Vigo it's direct to sheerness then killingholme. I believe that they may now have added Amsterdam to the schedule for it's return trip to Africa. It does not mention any other ports.

Edit: Sorry it’s Antwerp not Amsterdam for return journey.

I thought that the cars had to go to Germany (or somewhere else in the EU where they could do one tiny thing that could be considered manufacturing processes) in order to say the car was manufactured (albeit partially) in the EU, such as QC checks and therefore avoid attracting levies/taxes for being manufactured outside the EU. Maybe there's special dispensation to avoid the QC checks with the Aug 15th WLTP deadline approaching.

I'd welcome my car arriving earlier than anticipated by avoiding a trip to Germany on the way to the UK, but thought rules had to be followed.

Will have to ask again about that VW compensation for enforced early registration.

Heard on a radio ad that VW are pushing a VW SUV event hard right now - vehicles sold/registered by Aug 15th.

Monkeyhanger my brother said the same about going to Germany first so as to avoid EU import tax, hopefully they may have waived that for the WLTP.

Hope you are not disappointed, all cars normaly go to Germany first. If nothing else it is to transfer to smaller car carriers that can get into UK ports. I’ve confirmed my GTi is on Green Ridge going up the English Channel now, will be in Germany very soon.

But as I posted earlier cars have been dropped off at Vigo in Spain and Zeebrugge from the ships on their way to Emdenapart from other African ports. I can understand them being transferred onto smaller ships at Emden but surely the checks coming out of the factory in South Africa are just as strict as in Germany? The Germans would not appreciate a shipload of duff cars arriving at Emden that needed sorting. The Grand Orion is NOT scheduled for a stop at Emden as far as we know. It is due at Hull on the 19 th so there is a shortage of time to visit Emden as well.
Anyway we will see.

The Grand Orion is 59000 tons which is quite big. Not sure what the English port size limits are.

According to phileep on the forum Grand Orion is indeed going to Emden after Vigo and is due in on 17/07 so this seems to clear things up.

Fair enough I will just go with the flow and wait.

I always wondered how they got around the 10 percent import charge for cars built outside the EU ..!

Maybe they do pay 10% import duty, but even with that it's cheaper to build in SA, due to the absence of overheads associated with ensuring that bananas are straight etc. (Tongue firmly in cheek.)

I bet they can grow, pick and ship out banana's quicker than VW can produce Polo's

And they make a mint out of Polos......I'll get me coat!

Took the wife’s Ibiza into Seat to get the seatbelt recall sorted and hopefully info system replaced and they said that the WLTP was causing massive headaches. They have people contacting them about their cars and they don’t have any information to give them so it’s not just VW.
