Hi all!! I'm new to the forum, from South Africa and am hoping to learn a lot from you. I am also a proud owner of the Polo 6C GTI, took delivery last week and enjoying it thus far. One thing that irritates me a bit is the soundaktor, has anyone disconnected the soundaktor on their GTI's? I only find 6R videos and DIY's. Thanks

It's going back tomorrow, car has now covered 60 miles and there is a very load squeak from the front driver side wheel. I've gave the car a visual check over and can't see anything obvious so think perhaps the wheel bearing. It's annoying that they never picked this up during PDI as my wife heard it a few times on journey home.
After stacks of VWs over the years I can see this being the last, they're just not what they used to be.
Hi, Got a similar problem with mine but front passenger wheel. Loud squeak at low speeds. Mines going in at the beginning of next week. Really annoying as you would not expect this from a new car. Let me know how you get on with yours and what the verdict and fix is. Many thanks

Without hearing the sounds being made, it does sound like brakes to me - possibly just seized slightly between factory and you or bedding in, it may even be something to do with the XDS when going around corners and the brakes being applied by the system at that point. I'd be astonished if it were anything serious but fingers crossed it isn't.
I think I might of heard a squeak coming from mine the other day.
But sounded like brakes so didn't take much notice of it. I wouldn't be surprised if a quick change of pads would sort it out or even a smear of copper slip on the back of the pads.
I hear some squeaks coming from the suspension when going over bumps at around city speeds.
Are those the ones you guys are talking about? They sound like normal working suspension to me.
Or is it squeaking all the time when the wheels are turning?
Update.
Took the car in yesterday and waited for it....
Technician went out in the car to test, then into workshop, then back out on road, then back into workshop. Service advisor then came and told me it was a stone lodged between the disc rotar and cover. Technician back out in car, back into workshop, finally back out in car and returned to me.
I questioned the technician after regarding the stone as I really don't believe that was the issue however the fault appears to be rectified for now at least. I would say it was more an issue with the brakes incorrectly adjusted as it certainly wasn't a grinding noise you would get from a picked up stone.

I have the old model but according to Auto Express it is 2,500 rpm at 70mph for the manual, I would expect the DSG to be very similar, perhaps fractionally lower even given the extra gear ratio.

Brilliant thanks for the reply.
Still torn between a higher spec`d manual or a dsg which i have really set my heart on, I have driven the bluegt dsg and a ibiza fr150 dsg in the past week and I must say the dsg box is a peach which had me grinning like a loon.

Hmm, a bit skeptical about the stone bit as I initially had the same problem as well. I didn't have time to have it checked out and the problem has now disappeared (bearing in mind i have now done 2500 miles)

I've gone for the DSG, although the torque is down, a remap can sort that, I would imagine the gearbox can handle some sort of increase as long as you don't go mad!
Although the golf gti gets a different DSG box I've seen large increases in power/torque without any mods to the gear box, and no reliability issues over long periods.
