I was told the 5 door models take longer in general by the sales guy, as they're built in South Africa as opposed to Spain....not sure if that's the case with yours

I thnik your salesman was mistaken, I'm from South Afica and we do not assemble the Polo GTI. Even mine was built and imported from Germany. I had a chat with some friends of mine who work for VWSA and they have confirmed this.

The Polo GTI is made in Spain, not Germany.
The 11th digit of your VIN number will confirm this. Y = Spain, U = South Africa.

I've been told may car will be delivered at the end of July.
Does anyone have any advise regarding waiting for the new reg. Obviously it will be another month until the new reg comes in (Sept), so what are people experiences /opinions on waiting to get the new reg. Is it worth waiting, how much difference in ££££ terms is it likely to make in 2-3 years to the cars value.
Cheers

i ordered feb and still waiting, at a rough guess mine will be here around first or second week in august. If so then im gonna let them keep it and register it on sept 1st. Not have a 'new' car for just three weeks, then as you say you lose out at trade in time.

Just confirmed it to be Spain as it is a "Y" but definitely not built in South Africa. Thanks for the correction.

Hi all
Just picked up a new 5 door GTI in silk blue. Very nice all round, but I've noticed that the body metal, immediately above the plastic skirt down the sides of the car, is quite rough, almost like a thin line of weld all along the top of the skirt.
Can anyone confirm whether this is the same on theirs, or a bit of a finishing quirk on mine? Just seemed a little out of place, given how well the rest of the car is out together.
Cheers.

You've been very unlucky Andy. Spoke to my dealer the other week and after ordering at the end of April, I've got a confirmed build week of 26. Surprised how quick it has taken when I was told that it would be around 5 - 6 months from ordering.

Hi All, has anyone managed to disconnect the soundaktor yet? I find it very annoying, please share some details if you've disconnected it or know how to. Thanks

My GTI has now been delivered to the dealer. Just over 2 months from ordering - much quicker than I expected, especially for a high-spec car

Is it a 3-door?
I don't get why 5 door models are taking so long.
BTW congrats!
Already done close to 800km in mine. Run in period is almost over, thank god. I'll unleash the beast in the next few hundred kms
I talked to my VW dealer and they told me the first check-up and intervention is only done at 30.000km or 2 years, whichever comes first.
I was thinking on doing an oil change and filters after the run-in period, any thoughts on why I shoul or shouldn't do it?

Mine's a 5 door, so looks like I got lucky.
As for running in, I'd advise giving the engine a good workout throughout the rev range early on. Basically don't treat it gently, but don't labour it either. The reason for this is that VW fill the engine with Long Life fully synthetic oil at the factory. It's not the ideal kind of oil for running in engines though. If you don't subject these engines to high loads early on you run the risk of the piston rings not bedding in properly to the bores. The outcome of this can be that the engine becomes an oil drinker, and that it won't produce as much power as it could do.
You should definitely not change the oil early on - again because you risk the engine not running in properly. My car will be serviced after 1 year or 10000 miles. I don't think the 20000 mile extended service regime is a good idea for longevity of the engine.

mines probably fully run in and it hasn't even done 200 miles yet.
i fully believe you wait til the engine oil is up to temp and give it some beans and i've given mine some beans lol

I've given it the beans too. I mean... I couldn't resist
All I can say is this car gets to 200km/h really easily
One other question, anyone else hearing some beeping coming from the engine compartment right after stopping? What is it?

It is normal... It's the joint between the buttom and the sill.
It's just a jacking point anyway.
