I'd have given it a chance though, I won't be selling mine if the gearbox goes whether I have to pay £100 or £3000.

Anyway I'm off now to go and drive my mediocre car and break my gearbox .

I would NO way spend 16k on a VW

@samuel090180. to be honest i think its a bit bizzare your a member of a forum designed at polo owners it and you are currently only using it to express your dislike towards the car.

your talking to a forum full of people who love their cars, so even if your statements are factually correct you are not going to change their opinion on polos.

My Gti has given me some problems such as the engines top end being destroyed but that was due to the dealers negligence as all the signs were there that it was going to happen, fixed under warranty tho. I needed a new RPM sensor and passenger window switch but part from that that’s my only problems. I would recommend the car to anyone and the minority will not change my opinion. Love my GTI

what a bizarre thread. My dad had a gearbox failure on a MK2 golf at just 18K miles. It put him off VW's for life, and he has gone Jap ever since. It does only take one bad experience to put you off. My missus had 18000 quids worth of engine trouble in her 4yr old corsa sport, and 3 sets of locks fail.... needless to say I wouldnt be tempted by a vauxhall.

Sam obviously had a bad experience, but feels it neccessary to preach to the rest of us that we're driving a bad car??

I didn’t go anywhere.....I was simply busy revising for my Uni exams.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI, is a nice looking car.....it is probably the best looking VW that I have seen in a long time.
But I feel that the car was 'poorly' planned and it was also 'rushed' into production, my argument is based on the following points : -

VW Polo GTI interiors seem to be ‘randomly’ put together, e.g. you can get the same coloured car on the same registration plate, but with completely different coloured seatbelts and door cards.

The Gearbox’s can not handle the extra BHP, from the GTI engine, so they fail at an alarming rate.

The car needs a 6th gear, because when a GTI is driven at over 80 mph the engine noise becomes deafening.

The BBS alloy wheels corrode.

Clutches also fail at an extremely high rate on this vehicle.

The cambelts on these vehicles also have the tendency to ‘fail’ at low mileages.
