Lol Macdonalds Straw Manifold
JBS Auto Design quoted me for the Cams mate and they are well respected in the VAG community.
Because the car has VVT its not a simple job to change the cams on these and if your not 100% sure what your doing its best to get it done proffesionally.
Once the cams are changed a re-map is essential and with these being lumpy cams it needs to be done straight away.
The Phase 2 Custom Map is done on the road rather than in the workshop.
They custom tweak the map through the rev range so you will be driving the car at various speeds while some dude is sitting in the passenger seats with his laptop & mapping gear.
The guys at JBS certianly know what their doing and will respect your car
Iye the Kam Racing Manifold is not cheap, around £400-450 if you go for the de-cat option rather than a sports cat, its deffo worth getting the De-cat for maximum performance gains.
I have got a Raceland Manifold which has been fully prepared, Its even been fully heat wrapped & coated but I still havent had it fitted.
Been stalling for a while because a 4-1 manifold is where its at

4-2-1 is a waste of time really

like you said for 2bhp or less it really isnt worth it.

It's funny you should mention JBS, as that's where my CAD designer mate used to work... Hence why I think I'm going to get him to design some manifolds and exhausts for me...
Well, I'm competent with engines so removing and refitting a cam is no biggie... I had mine all apart when I did my cambelt change as I removed the cam cover to re-seal it and I was curious of the set up with the cams being integral to the cover..
I would be getting a custom re-map as you said, it's a must.. A healthy 170bhp+ with a good manifold, exhaust, sports cat, cams and a re-map is achievable.. maybe an extra 5-10 with a ported and polished head.. Then after that we are talking custom ignition and fuelling, ITB's, bottom end work.. But I'm not even going to consider those for the time being unless I get rich quick...!

Yeah 170bhp is realistic and provided you get some good work done the gearbox it should run sweet as a nut.
I have heard the Internals are good for 190bhp Maximum so I wouldnt like to push them anymore than 170 to be honest.
De-cat, 4-1 Manifold, Free flowing Induction Kit, Stainless Exhaust System, 256 duration Cams, Custom Code Map and you should be sorted.
Are you going to put it on a diet too for the track?

So in short a reliable 180bhp (give or take) is achievable with my planned mods and a raised limiter to 7500rpm, maybe more with ITB's..? Then after that your talking thousands and thousands of ££££ for an extra unreliable, un-drivable on the roads 20bhp?
Think I'll stick with my planned mods and be happy with a reliable 170-180bhp... After that see what happens..

The rev limiter can be raised to 8000rpm too but I think if you stick to your original plan you should be on to a winner.
I can't see 180bhp being possible without uprating the internals but 160-165 should be easily achievable perhaps 170 if your lucky.
Its all about the gearbox really though, thats the biggest problem unfortunately. If you can overcome that issue by improving it then it should be fine.
Be a right pocket rocket with that kind of power

The gearbox doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've done my research and the internals are that of all 085 gearboxes including the G40 and there are many an example with 170bhp+ with a torque curve a GTi will never have.. All the GTi box needs are the rivets drilled out and replaced with high tensile steel nuts/bolts and the 5th gear idler plastic bearing replaced with a metal item... That'll see the gearbox for well over 200Bhp...
Well, I think 170bhp in a car which weighs just over 1ton whilst revving at 8,000rpm will be sweet.. Imagine the sound!!!

Just ordered some JOM coilovers.. Direct from Germany as nowhere in UK have them!! Believe it or not, they are a little bit cheaper getting them posted from Germany than buying them over here in the UK!! Go figure!
I'm also picking up some 90's/motorsport stylee wheels in the next few days too!!

These are going to be spaced with some stupid tyres and flush to my arches and dick head low... Ha ha.. So much for my OEM+ plan!

lol, don't expect anything special or flashy.. Just some crap 90's spec wheels with some skinny ass tyres on! I'll try and make them look nice with some stance and arch rolling!

How much were the top mounts? I need to change my shocks this weekend and might as well change them too.
